I feel dumb here, but is there some kind of trick for this?
I’ve just been buying hundreds of Boar Meat and making Roasted Boar Meat to feed my pet, but it seems like I have to feed him every 30-40 seconds, otherwise he falls into the Unhappy category, and pretty quick into the red.
Is this a problem because I am being a cheap and giving my pet peasant food, or are pets stomachs really just black holes and need to be fed non stop?
Something seems to have changed with hunter pet feeding. I’ve been running the same cat since the beginning (the white stripe one that you get a rune from) and have had to feed him three times during an sfk fast run.
Couple days ago he was good for a long time with no food. Certainly not needing feeding a few times within a 20 min window
I haven’t noticed any difference, but it’s easy to “waste” food. Your pet has to not do anything after you feed it while it eats, so you can’t just feed it and send it in to attack.
Don’t spam feed him. Wait for his eating buff to disappear.
Yeah found that my crab doesn’t need to feed that much, but gains happiness faster via feeding him only while the feeding buff is not shown. I kinda wish if we fed the pets stat food they would gain the “well fed” buff like players do.

Feeding food closer to their level range also helps. You can’t just feed your lvl 25 pet lvl 1 wolf meat

Feeding him max level vendor meat. Possible I could have clipped his feeding buff if it’s true that it won’t count if he is in combat.
Seems like that’s the problem that I am having, then. Roasted Boar Meat is a really low level food and the pet is 25.
Feed him still hes happy and fight mobs with em
This is it, right here.
Your pet is growing and you’re giving him the same amount of food as when he was a newborn. Animal services gonna come and take it away.
If you open your combat log you can see his happiness go up. Keep feeding till it says the pet happiness only increases by a single digit. Then he will be full and should last a bit longer for you. Also entering combat and dmg will stop the feed pet buff.

The item level of the meat must match the level of the pet. Search for “WoW Classic Meat Level” and you will get the Wowhead meat list. At the top of the table, left-click on “Ilvl” and it will sort in order. Scroll to the Ilvl of the meat that matches the level of your pet. This will minimize your costs, and maximize the length of time your pet is happy.
You’re level 50. Assuming you’re pet is as well, roasted boar meat is too low of a level of food. Your pet eats food equivalent to their level, same as you. And do not spam feed, wait for the buff to disappear before feeding again so your pet eats all of it.
Did you hear that? That was the sound of an SoD dev slapping his forehead.
