Having played WoW since the open WoW beta, and having at least 5 Hunters of varying levels across the game. I have noticed that the feeding of Hunter pets is extremely excessive. My pet is a best friend and I have to constantly feed it. I do not ever remember it being like this?
feed it better food maybe?
Make sure you’re using the correct level food. You upgrade your food as your pet levels. If you don’t have it already get cooking and level it up, food you made keeps them happier longer
Over-feed it a bit, then. If you feed it at yellow and stop when it’s green, you’re basically stopping at 60%. Feed it again and it should last a lot longer as green.
I’m feeding the cat same level Raptor meat, bear meat, etc. Again, I just don’t remember it being like this. Between a quiver and having to carry stacks of food = “inventory full”.
Peeks from around the corner.
Dials SPCA.
You play a hunter? Eww
Played Hunter in Vanilla and playing again in Classic, can confirm this is how it was, every death puts them in yellow, full happiness lasts for maybe 30m, you need stacks of food.
Its correct, this is just how hunters were.
I am not getting your same experience lol…
I don’t even buy food for my pet… the food drops are enough.
Though I have a bear, and they eat almost anything…
Consider going Bear if you don’t like it.
I feed mine roasted quail and that keeps him happy. I’m currently 300 cooking, but need to learn some better recipes for the level 45+ food.
It helps to max out fishing and cooking if the cost of keeping him happy is starting to hurt your pocket.
I’m not a hunter but I am a cook. I had no idea hunters were struggling with their pets regarding food. I need to make some meals and give them to some passing hunters!
Think if happiness like a bar that fills up. Using lower level meats only fills the bar a little, higher level meats fills the bar much more. Each meat has a level, and the level of your pet does determine how much happiness your pet gets out of the meat. Like killing mobs equal level gives more xp than mobs 5 levels under you.
This isn’t what I’m experiencing. I carry 1 stack of meat for my cat and myself. I don’t even restock until I’m nearing 5!
Lol. You’re not abusing the inventory management work around (also known as the mailbox) correctly.
Tame a cat, learn to fish, level cooking. Win.
Feeding pets was something I had forgotten about that makes me really happy now.
It’s EXACTLY the way I remember it. My bear will eat just about anything that drops off of mob kills, or whatever I can afford at a vendor. You can let it go until it’s loyalty indicator hits red, but then you HAVE TO feed it to keep it from running away, and at red it’s going to take more than one feeding to get it back into the green.
Serious question? Are you like feeding your pet low level food? Or just murdering him left and right? Because once they become best friend you rarely have to feed them honestly. At least that’s been my experience.
^^ this.
When I had a guildie say they needed all the Runecloth they could get to grind darnassus rep I went on my 6th banker alt and had about 70stacks to send to him
welcome to vanilla. Once the dungeons get longer even your quiver doesn’t cut it. If you are anticipating doing the entire dungeon you need at least 1 additional 12 slot bag full of ammo, even worse if you have a 2.0 or faster ranged weapon. I can’t even imagine the amount of ammo hunters are blowing through with the “hurricane” bow (1.6 if i recall)
At any given time I also have to keep about 3 stacks of 20 meat on me. You think feeding pets are annoying now, wait until you start spending 1-2 hours pvp’ing, and your pet is getting killed by players over and over again. Each rez requires at least 2 meats to get them back to happy
Don’t know about anyone else, but I try to feed my pet with food that will at least restore 90% of its health bar. Most of the time it will restore MORE than the max on the health bar. How much it has to be fed is dependent on how low I let its loyalty status get before I feed it. I can usually get two or three full quests done before it drops from green to yellow.
Not only do we have to constantly spend money on food and ammo (level 40 ammo is 9s a stack), but hunters also have to spend money to get raid ready
Devilsaur gaunts on my server (assuming you don’t want to just farm the mats yourself, which good luck on a medium-high pop server) = about 75g
devilsaur legs: another 135g
Considered bis for raid gear. Although I’d love for this to be challenged so I don’t have to waste more than 200g that I could spend towards epic mount on this gear
Also, assuming you want the bis pre-raid weapon, well Dwarven hand cannon = another 500g
