Hunter pet attack speed question

So I have 2 cats, one with 2.0 attack speed and 1.2 attack speed. Will the one with lower attack speed do more damage? Im not super familiar with how pet attack speed works in Classic so I figured I would ask.

Slower attack speed will hit harder with abilities. Auto attack damage is normalized though.

Okay then is there any situation where the 1.2 or 2.0 attack speed will make a difference? I prefer the look of the cat with the 2.0 attack speed but dont wanna gimp myself for looks

For PVP – you generally want a faster attack speed for spell interrupts against dorky caster elfs.

If you’re spec’d deep into Beastmastery, generally speaking, a faster attack speed is preferred. Faster attack speed = more pet auto-attacks = more pet auto-attack critical strikes = more Frenzy talent procs = faster pet auto-attacks = more pet auto-attack critical strikes = high pet damage.

If you really like your pet with a 2.0 attack speed, it’s not like you’re going to do poorly in PVE or PVP.

Everything Jeddite said is correct. I’m going to expand on it though and mention that with 3/5 points in the attack speed on crit talent it is going to be up almost all the time regardless of attack speed, but if you want to min/max then what he said would have an impact.

Also, pet abilities don’t matter with attack speed, and auto attacks are normalized as Balthalor mentioned. It is flanking strike that has better scaling with the pet having slower attack speed, if you aren’t doing any flanking strikes, then faster attack speed is 100% the way to go. Either way it is a minor damage difference unless you are full melee hunter running the BM majority spec.

Alright thanks guys  trying to learn more to play better and the infos been helpful
