Hunter pet and dungeons?

im about to start a hunter. one thing i see sometimes hunters do in dungeons is pull mobs that werent supposed to be pulled with pet.

what setting do i keep the pet on to avoid this? passive? assist? any other tips to avoid this?

Really the big thing is don’t cast a pet attacking ability in “the moment”. Just practice taking a second to make sure you’re about to hit the right thing. Second, dismiss your pet before you take a shortcut.

Here’s a list of tips -

  1. Your pet will not (body) pull if you are mounted.
  2. If you take a lock gate while not mounted, your pets will not take the gate with you. If you take it while mounted, they go in the gate with you.
  3. Have pet stances keybound for emergency pet recalls. You generally always want your pet on assist.
  4. If you jump off a ledge and there is a clear path for your pet to take, they will take that path and potentially pull (example is the ledge to the forge boss in Neltharus). If there is no accessible path, they will either snap to you, or get stuck. Generally best to dismiss pets before jumping any ledges and performing skips.
  5. Since camo applies to pets, it’s your best friend.
  6. I don’t believe your animal companion pet can body pull.
  7. If your pet gets stuck, putting it on passive and pressing follow usually snaps it to you.

It more of a pet pathing issue. The AI will look for away to get back to you, and if there is no other way than through hostels than it will drag them along.

To piggy back off this topic… how do I turn off growl? Back in the day I right clicked it on the pet bar. Is it different now? I did my first DF run yesterday and right clicked growl and it didn’t turn off (at least visually on the bar).

Growl gets automatically disabled on dungeons now
