I haven’t decided on my faction yet, but I know my character will either be a Tauren or a Night Elf. I was wondering which of those classes is best for material farming, of all kinds. I think I’ll be going for mining/herb but I might go herb/skinning. It all depends, either way, I will for sure be collecting herbs for classic. What class is best here? Thanks.
Hunter, easiest to play, and has a pet to tank any mobs while you gather.

Druid’s can stealth to nodes/well defended herbs, so my vote is Druid.

Yes, the pet. But does it outweigh having built in speed abilities + stealth? I gotta know!
So here are some benefits of both youll have to choose.
Hunter: pet to tank while gathering
Traps to remove a mob while gathering
Fast killing for skinning
Druid: built in travel speed no mounting required (except for longer distances)
Stealth
Roots
Self healing
Also hibernate. It’s usually a lizard or something on your node. ETA Taurens pick flowers faster than everyone else too.

I used to do solo runs into the Grim Guzzler to get reagents and recipes back in the day. If it were not for my pet offtanking while I ran to a safe spot to feign death it would be impossible.
Sure you MIGHT be able to stealth through. But if you get caught. . well… good night sweet kitty

If you’re looking for gold making, mat farming is a poor way to do it. Raw gold farming is largely considered the best.
I won’t be selling the mats on the AH. I just want my mats for free. I dunno if I am doing leatherworking or not, but I am DEF doing Alchemy.
You could, or you could raw gold farm and buy the mats yourself. There’s going to be a lot on the market and that’s one thing you can buy without going broke. As a Hunter you can raw gold farm pretty much the best (especially post-DM patch) and you can also herb quite easily.
Okay, so if its insanely easy buying mats of the AH and there is no benefit to gathering, should I just have production professions? Why even take mining or herbing?

For leveling, selling them to the vendor for free gold. At 60 you don’t really need either. The best professions to have are Engineering/Alchemy, but you can also go with Engineering/Enchanting. There’s really no reason to go with gathering professions - most people who do have it will flood the market.
Cool. What kind of high value Engineering items sell on the AH in classic?

Or just farm everything and buy mats then resell.
Nope. Tauren herbalism racial just gives +15 herbalism skill in Classic.
Personally I’d say druid. Instant travel form is great for running from mobs and for traveling between multiple nodes that are close to each other where it isn’t worth mounting up. It’s better than aspect of the cheetah for sure.
Druids also have more CC to skip mobs between roots and hibernate. And they have stealth which can be useful for grabbing nodes in caves and in other scenarios.
