Hunter needs help with Dash

Any Hunter out there that has been able to learn Dash on a Cat or Hyena? I am level 42 and Hyena level 41 and still no Dash. They only get four abilities not six like the cats so I have a blank spot for Dash.

Have you tamed any of these?

Yes, I really just want to know if anyone else has learned Dash yet? I have tamed 3 pets on that list.

Yeah man I have dash on this hunter. I tamed a tiger in STV for it. But it did take longer to learn it than any other pet skill I noticed. I was like, come on! But I did eventually learn it.

I’ve also noticed that you only get to learn 4 pet spells on the pet action bar. For my cat I had to choose from prowl, bite, claw, dash, and growl. I decided prowl was the least useful to me so I retrained my cat without it at the trainer. Hope this helps.

Oh, I see, you’ve trained the pet but are still waiting for “learning” thing to proc, which I assume is a random chance to occur each time the pet uses the ability.

I tamed a Hyena in Desolace and had a problem learning Dash as well. What I did was get close to the mobs I was attacking, then send the pet to attack. Apparently, being close to the pet helps to learn the ability.

yea, dash took a while to learn for me too… most of the other abilities I wold learn after one or two uses, but dash took ages… just keep using it, you will get it eventually…

FYI turn off all other abilities except the one you want to learn from the new pet and go use it. For Dash just cast it several times from your bar manually as it comes off cool down and you have the focus to do it. Some abilities over ride these or use up all the focus to they never cast so takes forever to learn like if you have Growl and Cower on at same time will take days to learn Cower unless you turn off Growl.

I believe you can only put 4 things on the bar but you can have them all turned on or active in your spellbook, you would just have to open your spellbook or make a macro to change them if they aren’t on your bar.

Example:
Macro 1 for Soloing

/petautocastoff Cower
/petautocaston Growl
/w Darkot TAUNT ON

Macro 2 for Tank in group

/petautocaston Cower
/petautocastoff Growl
/w Darkot TAUNT OFF

I just got a Hyena from Tanaris and he learned Dash before I used him? Dash is the only thing he has atm. I will keep playing him and see if he learns anything else. It never announced I had learned Dash either it just showed on his bar as soon as I tamed him and he uses it.
I does not appear in my Beast Training Icon so I can not teach it to another pet that way. I am very confused now.

I think you need a TM for that.

I have been working with a GM but they do not know why this is happening. So far they have had me reset my UI the hard way. When this did nothing I wrote back and am still waiting there for help. I thought if anyone here had the same trouble I could learn what to do faster. It is really bothering me. Just seems like it should be a simple thing.

No, a TM. It’s a Pokemon joke.

Pets do not learn new abilities, you teach them new abilities beyond the ones they start with when first tamed.

When you tame a pet, sometimes it will have something that it already knows. That will automatically appear on the pet bar. If you play with the pet for a bit, it will teach that skill to you if you don’t already know it. (You’ll see a message saying you learned it in chat, and it will be added to your beast training interface.)

To actually teach new stuff to your pet, you have to train it. In the General tab of the spellbook, you should have a “Beast Training” ability. When you use that, you’ll get a list of all the pet skills your hunter knows. (Anything in grey is stuff your current pet already knows.) You can chose the stuff from there to teach your pet.

thank you this is encouraging I will go now and work on him !

Most people drop it with Petopia, man. Not me. I will actually help. First you will want to go STV to tame a Stranglehorn Tiger (Dash 1). Not an Elder or young tiger but it will say exactly Stranglehorn Tiger (that’s all). Once learned you can teach it to a pet that can learn Dash (not all pets can), or you can keep the tiger. If a Hyena can learn Dash, make sure you have the right one that can learn it if that’s the pet you want to keep. You will have to abandon one once desired skill is learned, in this case, Dash 1. Just teach it to pet you want to keep. If you keep Tiger, it will take awhile for it to get up to speed to even learn growl (loyalty and training points go hand in hand).

Simply stable your main pet that can learn Dash, go tame Tiger, learn Dash then teach it. If the pet cannot be taught Dash, it will not learn it. YOU WILL need the training points and loyalty for any pet to learn anything though. That’s Dash 1.

Not the end of the road though. There are technically 4 ranks of Dash, but only three are easy to get.

Next, go to Feralas to tame a Longtooth Runner which will teach both Dash 2 and Bite 6. Before then you should have established a MAIN pet, so you will learn skills, then abandon Longtooth, take pet out of stable then teach if all reqs are met. Do not leave the Feathermoon island. It’s all right there. Both the Longtooth Runner and the mobs needed to kill to learn. The reason why Dash is hard to learn is because on some targets, pet that already knows Dash will not always use it. Learning pet skill is really like the lottery, but they usually take longer to learn than you might like.

Next go to Burning Steppes to tame a Blackrock Worg for Dash 3. You know the routine. The problem here is that people kill a lot of worgs for quests, so you will likely have to go to the wolf stable to target one and tame him out into a freezing trap placed outside of aggro range of everything else. This method is a way of getting aggro without doing damage, to draw the desired beast towards a desired spot. Once worg is trapped in ice, reactivate tame immediately.

Dash 4 is possible but it only comes off an elite wolf in the Hinterlands (could be mistaken on that one). However that is the path to Dash 3.

As others have said, Dash seems to be one of the skills that is hard to learn. Dash 1 is the longest to learn. You just have to keep using the pet that already knows Dash until it either says on the screen Dash learned or it shows up in your beast training bar (which you should have on a hot key for quick reference). It looks like a wishbone sort of. Mouse over wishbone and it informs all pet skills you can teach.

I tamed the hyena level 34 from Desolace, there is a pack of 4, kill 3 tame 1, over by the path to Mara. I learned Dash r1 on the first mob i attacked. Just make sure you have the correct hyena that actually has dash.

Once you learn the spell dash it will show in the chat box dash r1 aquired or something like that. After that open you spell book and it should be in the pet trained abilities.

One thing to note theres rng in learning it, I learned dash on the first mob. Bite 5 took around 20 mobs to learn. It could be a run of terrible rng.

Thanks all I finally got Dash 1 yeah! Now I will be able to help someone else when they ask .
