cool i like it a lot, how do you feel about make tar trap just a raw talent and let that be the trap that drops on disengage, change the talent to opt in to root

so im speaking from a marks pov because its my fav spec in the game but fundamentally the class as a whole is flawed that a trap isnt going to really fix. the issue is hunters kit is severely outdated compared to others. ice block vs turtle… ice block heals them while they are in it but mages are also tankier outside of it on top of a lot more cc and anti melee tech to let them hang onto it more and pally can do full damage and healing in their immunity on top of them both being able to use it while cc’d. dh has netherwalk which is 1 of several defensives on par with our 1 true defensive.

mobility creep is another issue especially as a super squish… dh have 2 dashes and both recharge in the same time your 1 disengage recharges so they have us beat 2 to 1 already. then they have felblade 15 sec cd 15 yard dash the range of our disengage. 3 to 1, they can vengeful retreat at us same distance as disengage. 4 to 1 they can Hunt us and meta jump to us… 6 mobility options to our 1… warriors have 3 monks have 4 7 if they get creative and the situation is right, dks chains of ice spam… i could keep going on mobility and defensives but you get the point… can only set up their own cc once a min even tho trap is on a 30 sec cd and you have to land it.

at a baseline level it feels like hunter is several expansions behind other classes. new bells and whistles on your bike is all fine and dandy but if you have no tires it doesnt really mean much

Defensively it feels OK. Compared to hunter at its peak we’re missing 2 charges of deterrence but gained a 40% wall. What MM is sorely missing is sustain. DoTs and pets screw us hard without a healer, it’s like vanilla through cata all over again. You really feel this vs mut rogue and feral, once they get full bleeds there’s nothing you can do. Wish we had mending bandage.

MM can kite really well, you just never press aimed shot. If you’re alone you should macro cheetah to master’s call. Steel trap helps a lot. Avoid talents based around aimed shot. The damage isnt as bad as you’d think. Would it be better if we could just cast aimed shot while moving? Absolutely.

Hunter traps are the worst form of CC in the game. Dispelable, travel time, 3ft accuracy skill shot, instant break on damage. No other class before Evoker has ever had a skill shot CC and theirs just covers the entire screen when you put it down, and no I don’t consider putting a totem slightly in the vicinity of a player a skill shot.

Hunter utility is locked behind a pet that gets rooted, stunned, feared, sap’d, blinded, sheep’d or just goes on vacations to Africa mid-match then dies instantly if any cleave happens within a 100 yard range of it. Yeah, I can go collect different pets and use them to counter some of the CC, yes I can make macros to control it’s absolutely (always has been) terrible AI, yes I can make other macros to make utility actually useful, and yes I can use my only major defensive heal, to heal it when it gets destroyed. What other class does anything near this to get a DR, or a stun? None, nothing even comes close to how terrible the base kit is for hunter utility.

Hunters wear mail, but it provides less damage mitigation than cloth casters have through instant, near limitless (in some cases) defensives. Hunters again have 1 heal they almost exclusively need to reserve for their pet, have a deflect that locks them out of using most things, and a new (finally) 40% DR on a longer CD than most caster’s equivalent spells. They have the worst defensive kit of any ranged spec, or at the very best tied with elemental shaman.

It is my favorite class for sure, but locking its utility behind a pet that requires constant management and additional keybinds is just so lackluster compared to everything else. Kiting can’t be the answer to it’s poor defensive kit, it works…until it doesn’t which is right after you run out of freedom/disengage.

So take double tap, but replacing it with a different damage profile and not addressing any of the rest of this out dated design that has been this way since vanilla seems like a bad idea.

Hunter trapping really feels extremely outdated when any little damage will instantly break it. Since it’s our main form of CC I feel like Diamond ice should be baseline and not lower the amount of time someone is trapped for.

That would fix the issue of just mongo aoe damage breaking a healer immediately out of traps. As for Hunter defensively most people knew going into DF that Hunter was going to suffer. While all these other classes got nice new toolkit for defensives Hunter got a tenacity pet heal that will never be used since most Hunters are required to take the masters call pet to even survive.

That being said Masters call should be a baseline ability again for Hunters, and the cunning pet ability should be something brand new. Maybe some new form of CC or something else I dunno. But making Masters call baseline allows Hunters to dip into either a Leech pet or take that 20% heal pet instead which would help out a bit.

Now would this fix all of Hunters issues currently? No, but it would be a start combined with outlier class tuning that would tone down some of these others classes survivability and damage.

Hunter needs more mobility. Over the years, Rogues, Warriors, Monks, DH, Dks, and damn near every melee class except Enh and Feral have gained multiple ways to close the gap. Disengage should have 2 charges . Pet stun should also be usable while stunned just like a lock can.

This is definitely not the solution rofl. Hunters do need defensive help but it needs to come in the form of passive self healing since hunters have the worst self healing in the game. Cheetah needs to be 30 sec, not 3 min. turtle should be 2 min and not 3 min. survival of the fittest should be 1-1.5 min.

Survival spec also needs something extra since it needs to go into melee and it dies as fast as ranged hunters but goes into cleave range.

Hunters are without a doubt the squishiest class in the game and should get some self healing/defensive help.

People saying ferocity pets leech needs buffed doesn’t fix the problem cause you don’t even want to use that pet in pvp. Aimed shot while moving does not fix the problem at all, because you still get killed instantly by people who aren’t bad and all specs need help, but survival needs the most help for defense.

Yes traps are the worst cc in the game as well. They have the most counters in the game and can flat out miss a target without pre-ccing the target or by having another player or pet on the target.

The game isn’t about kiting anymore. You cannot kite all the damage like you used to be able to. People need to stop leaning into the ‘kiting’ concept as the core of hunters. This is why their defense is so bad. You have to be able to not die in a stun and not die from non-CD sustain damage from other classes due to a lack of self healing compared to every other class in the game. If you’re trying to kite all game in arena, this is why your damage is so bad in arena and it’s the same people asking for aimed shot while moving.

Making Masters call baseline for all Hunters would solve this.

no it doesn’t. Unless the leech is busted then the battlemasters pet skill would still be better than having a pet where you can’t even use their ability at all.

It’s funny how the devs constantly deny this request for MM in PvP, but then create the most toxic gameplay mechanics to make up for it.

Hunters being frail at expack starts is the tax for playing the class that has bm as a spec option

Honestly can’t disagree :man_shrugging:

So what about if traps were just both targetable (throw with travel time directly at player- and also placeable on terrain (on yourself or on a friendly for stealths)

Lol don’t hunters have enough mobility and crowd control? They get wing clip/concussive shot, ice trap, tar trap, can see stealth with flare, can fire 99% of attacks while moving and have aspects of the cheetah and turtle to escape

spits on feral
sorry, thought you were a puss…

You are defense is a hunter is 41 yard range. Find better positioning don’t engage unless you’re 35 yards or further. That turtle shell is insanely powerful so is exhilaration.
