Hunter Mana Issues

An issue i have noticed is the mana consumption is so high on hunters that you go oom each pull. I am BM and just got Hawk. After like 2-3 rotations I oom, especially in dungeons as i dont have legacy talent help.. The problem is that it kinda replaces Arcane shot, but is more than double the mana.

We need blizzard to stabilize mana usage as I know im not the only class with mana issues but I can tell Hunters can just oom instantly each pull which ive never seen before. Im no hunter expert but this is what I am seeing right now.

This is partly why I prefer humans in the beta for hunters. The 5% spirit racial along with the extra 5% from legacy points helps with mana regen. My other hunter is a night elf and runs out noticeably faster.

Yes. In dungeons its really bad. Outside i can get away with some of it if i use the legacy points for max regen after kill. Otherwise its just horrid.

Hunter is going to have less and less of a mana issue the further up in levels we go. This is one of those “we’re stuck at level 30” problems that won’t be an issue at 60. There’s also the fact that in this iteration of the game Hunters need to carry mana potions and use them on cooldown during big fights.

At what level? Hunter mana in classic is pretty bad too once you start getting into 30s-40s.

Drinking. Every. Single. Pull.

I heard some hunters stack int or spirit to counter it. And isn’t there a new talent that converts int to ranged AP?

My advice would be to let some of your MP5 kick in, and to be a bit more conservative with your mana. You do not need to spam Arcane/Multi shot on cooldown or Serpent Sting on targets who wont live for most of its duration.

All the new good gear trades raw stat budget for +attack power, +spell power, or +healing power. I’m not sure how this wouldn’t result in smaller mana pools and less spirit-based regen.

People typically didn’t transition into that sort of gear until later in the leveling process, after they had access to resource-sustain talents, more resource-sustain buffs, resource-sustain options through leveled professions, etc.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to be a little more thrifty with your mana if you’re trying to be efficient. There’s also the fact that leveling a mana-based class is really mana intensive.

I can remember drinking almost constantly back in the day when I was leveling my Shaman, especially around the 30-40 mark.

I’m not trying to be efficient. I’m tryna see those big numbers hit. Makes me thirsty.

Jokes aside, I agree. Mana management is an important part of choosing a mana based class.

Every class, including hunters, have always had mana issue at lvl 30. Have you tried to play to a Mage or Shaman? It’s even worse.

At least you’re doing DPS while you go out of mana. Try playing a balance druid or warlock. I hear shaman is even worse. Blizzard probably wants low level characters that use mana to have resource issues, so I wouldn’t anticipate much changing here.

You sting, you hawk, you multi-shot.

Then happens 1 of 2 things:

  1. Now you are out of mana.
  2. Now you are locked out from using filler spell, arcane shot.

Hunter really needs help.

You’re level 30. You shouldnt be doing full rotations and spamming abilities. This isn’t that game.

Other classes basically do their full rotations, locks, shamans, priests, mages, etc.
-Or at least they can fill out the empty time with spamming their filler spell “shadow bolt”, “smite”, “lightning bolt” or “frostbolt”, etc. without cooldown, unlike arcane shot.

your filler is auto shot, their filler is wand

Great.. Hunters have the downsides of both physical (downtime) and the downsides of magic (running out of mana).. Cool, thanks for your insight.

How about telling hunters something posetive?

the positive is you will get better with gear and levels, just like everyone else. Thats how this game works.

If you want to be more powerful as youre leveling, pull off and farm some gear. If thats not important to you, continue on, work through the struggle, and continue to level.

That doesn’t address the cooldown problems, and that it feels awful as a rotation having all your spells locked out at once.
-Nor that the mana problem too will be a problem later, as the hawk cost is more expensive.

idk what youre getting at with cooldowns. You were talking about being oom. I guarantee you will have more mana with levels and gear. 100% sure.

100% just a level 30 thing. Mana starving you is meant to teach you how to be efficient with your mana use.
