Hunter kiting is impossible pre level 10?

New to classic and Hunter. I understand pre level 10 hunters are hard to use due to no pet, cheetah, concussive, wingclip. Right now I’m level 9 and have concussive which makes things a bit easier but I was wondering if there was still any way to be able to kite even before that? I have keys A and D changed to strafe too as well as a weapon swing timer but I would literally run at the same speed as the mob would until I’d give up and let it catch me for melee.

I’m just curious if there was anyway I would have been able to kite so I know it’s not the level, but a skill issue instead. Or not. Thoughts?

Depends on what race you are but I recommend getting 10s ASAP so you can learn a two hand weapon skill appropriate to your race. Being able to Raptor Strike to finish mobs will help you a lot before you have a pet.

When it comes to kiting, I recommend stutter stepping. I can tap my back button quickly 3 times without clipping an auto shot giving me time to get 1 or 2 more arrows into my target before they reach me. Also be sure you are opening with a normal shot. Never clip auto shots for a skill. So Auto, concussive, auto, arcane while stutter stepping should leave a target dead before they reach you, or a simple raptor strike away from death.

Leveling a hunter from 7ish to lv 10 is bit of a pita but then it becomes easy peasy relatively at 10 with the pet.
For what ever reason, Blizzard felt wingclip to be after pet acquistion. And concussive shot is 4 sec duration with a coold own of 10 or 12 sec. So you get an extra shot or two. But being aggro’d on before any range attacks is pretty boring with mostly just auto attack.

Usually at lv 9 I just go capital cities to pick up flight paths to fill up some of the exp bar.

No not really. But mobs that are below level 10 tend to run slower than actual players, so you can escape sticky situations and learn from them as a new player.

So technically, you can kite them, but before level 10 you don’t want to you just want to face Tank them.

Your best bet is to ask for a gold or two from an experienced player and purchase a plus weapon damage enchant and put that on a two-handed weapon along with a stamina enchant or two, and you’ll be able to tank these mobs no problem in just a few greens.

Kiting just takes practice and I think the 1 - 10 is great for that. Most mobs are slower in the start areas. Boars can be rough though with the damage increase after they charge. Upgrade your ranged wep as soon as possible, get some melee in to keep up your defensive skill as well. You get concussive shot at eight.
Night Elves have a quest chain that’ll get you a good bow at level six. It starts in Shadowglen with a quest to get items from spiders, continues with filling a flask at the moonwells. You get a 3.81 bow from the last quest. It can be done before the recommended level of eleven and makes kiting a breeze.
Here’s a link that has a list of weapons you’ll look for while leveling.

Stand there and melee like a man.
