Hunter in Torghast

Should I be doing Torghast with BM because with Marksman my pet dies too easy on the higher layers and I die fairly quickly after that?

Do it as BM or survival

You can get a power that increases your crit damage by 100% with your pet stun and increases your damage done by 100%

I’ve done in on survival and almost 1 hit stuff with kill shot (venthyr tho)

You can do well enough in Torghast as any spec but as with all solo content BM will be the most efficient and easy option.

MM gets that with Binding Shot, which works on bosses. It’s easy to kill bosses with burst for the most part. I only had trouble on layer 8 on the beta laste week, and that was at 157 ilvl cause I didn’t upgrade the PvP stuff.

Couple things, take as much single target damage and survivability as MM. Dont go for traits like the Mawrat explosions, it’s fluff that is useless in the fights that are actually hard.

Take traits that increase you health, that increases your pets health and the strength of your heal for your pet. Because the pet heal and exhilaration are both percent based.

If you can take the Tar trap size increase and snare increase those are really good once you have 2-3+ of the snare plus the size increase. The bosses cannot even move, they start “walking” towards you but aren’t moving anywhere. Which allows you to pump Aimed Shots into them from a stationary position. Eventually the bosses can gain enough stacks to become immune to CC and do 100% more damage, but you have to kill them before that anyways.

We only got layer 3 this first week, so I can only speak for that difficulty: no problems whatsoever, but it takes time to clear a floor and farm powers. As someone else said, as MM you just stack the common power that buffs Aimed Shot by 30% as many times as you can. Other than that, health/defensive powers and big stat buffs are the best option.

Also, one power makes skeletons drop double currency so i just killed * all * of them and on the last floor i just purchased every dps power i could find and there was still 1k currency to spare (even got an achiev for it). The boss just melted

You can do just fine as MM, but you will need to run with a pet, and at layer 3 or higher you want to build tanky rather than bursty.

Glass cannon builds are incredibly fun to play and Hunter’s have the movement and CC toolkit to make it work, but eventually you run into unavoidable damage that MM simply can’t survive without help.

I was able to utterly steamroll a layer 1-3 run on beta as MM building for pure damage where possible and movement abilities otherwise, but starting Layer 4 fresh knocked me in my butt super quick. This was with a template character in 170 gear.

I didn’t have any problems running without a pet until layer 6-8. Except the final bosses, I ran a pet on those every time.

Did you build tanky early on?

In my testing I ran very heavy glass cannon builds, and once Torments were in the mix, I didn’t have the sustain necessary to move quickly enough to get it done before the Torments became problematic. With Soulforges, I felt required to run a Ferocity pet specifically for the Leech healing, as otherwise I was using Exhilaration on cooldown just to keep my health from dropping too low while chain pulling, meaning I didn’t have it available for burst healing on elites where necessary.

What kind of ilvl we talking, so I got a better idea?

I was ilvl 157, I took the PvP gear from the vendor and just didn’t upgrade it.

I looked for Aimed Shot damage, increased Tar Trap radius and Snare, the Crit+Crit damage on Binding Shot if I was lucky enough to get it, health from killing Mawrats, and any of the damage proc’s.

I was running Surging Shots legendary though which gave me plenty of sustain.

Usually early all I had was Aimed Shot damage. I always took my time and went slow despite torments, but I never tried the torment where you constantly take damage. I only ran two torments that I remember, one where it spawns an add that increases in health and damage, the other where everything increases in health.

I would place tar trap in front of elites, then freezing Trap at my feet, open with burst and snare. Burn until they got to me and froze then jumped back and reset burst. I would do the same setup for add packs and just feign death anytime things got out of hand.

At 3 stacks of the tar trap snare, the elites just don’t move. It’s practically a root at that point. Gives you a lot of time to cast Aimed Shots.

Only time I really had trouble was with elites at layer 6-8 where I would sometimes have to pull my pet out depending on what powers I had gotten or not gotten. I never died until layer 7. I never died more than once till layer 8.

The only one I failed was layer 8 of ColdHeart Interstitia, the final boss had increased health from the torment and was at 810k Heath, but had that hardened shell thing that reduces damage by 90% until it drops off. I just couldn’t get enough damage on it before it stacked up the buff which made it immune to CC and 100% damage/speed increase.

Wait. Did they remove the feature that MM don’t need their pets anymore and…isn’t your AP/defense raised when you’re NOT running with a pet?

Been a thing since WoD. It’s called Lone Wolf.

We do 10% more damage without our pet yes, but our defense is not increased.

MM is the only spec I’ve never played and have been a hunter since Vanilla…I am probably the worst hunter.

I’ve never played Survival and I’ve played since Vanilla. So I would say not playing a spec doesn’t mean anything other than you’ve never played that spec.

I just soloed Layer 3 as MM, and don’t think I could have done it without a pet (154 ilvl). I had burst, but the pet tanked a lot of the big hits, and died a few times. Misdirect helped a lot with trash pulls. The last boss also had 288k hp and hit hard, and I wouldn’t have lived through the fight if he’d been casting straight at me instead of the pet (bursted him down to about 1/2 hp before he things started getting dicey).

However, I could see the aim shot ability, stacked enough times, being enough dmg to solo. I didn’t find many of those though

They really should have come up with a better way to distinguish floors and blocks… you said Layer 3 and I was like “You needa a pet, I just soloed the floor 6 boss without a pet at roughly the same… oh right… he means floor 13 - 18.”

So the boss that keeps killing me is Observer Zelgar.

The comments on Wowhead seem to indicate he is broken right now.

This guy just melts my pet and then melts me.

im having a ton of trouble with zelgar as well. I ran him three times last night and i swear im a better hunter than i was yesterday. Having to weave pet heals in with true shot windows and chain interupting. Torghast is great.

I love how people are just like “just pick these powers and those powers,” when literally I’ll get options like “get extra currency or your pet instantly kills mawrats.” It’s possible to be extremely unlucky and end up with the worst anima powers. Clearly as MM I would much prefer the single target stuff because my main concern is always the boss, and not the trash. But if I don’t get any single target anima, then it becomes difficult. It’s a very RNG scenario. You either get lucky or you don’t.

I tried again and got Cellblock Sentinel. I was able to beat him fairly easily.

I think that Observer Zelgar is just a little bit broken right now.
