How do Hunters generally manage Ferocious Howl in dungeons/raids? Guides tell me that wolf pets are good for the attack buff, but at the same time warm that melee pets die fast to bosses. I put them on passive since I don’t want to risk the wolf dying or pulling mobs in dungeons, but that means they don’t cast the buff. How do Hunters usually manage it in end game? Do you just put it on passive and manually activate the buff?
Run Broken Tooth, GG best dps. Raids are a joke anyway,
Broken tooth has the same dps as any other cat.
1.0 Attack speed thought. That makes it attack even faster then anything else.
you can put it on passive and bind furious howl to aimedshot / multishot.
But to be honest cats are just better DPS, even without the dmg boost. The amount of extra DPS you get from a cat outweighs the small benefit you get from the wolves howl
Faster attack, lower damage per attack, the difference is tiny. Usually the reason someone goes Broken Tooth is PvP, where having the fast attack delaying a caster is far more important than the damage done.
Yea it does, but it hits for less.
In this patch all pets are normalized, so all cats do the same dps as all other cats.
The only difference between pets is the class bonuses, like the cat family gets 10% damage.
Consult with your class or raid leader first. In Classic, there is a maximum number of buffs (not always obvious ones) that melee, particularly warriors, can have. Your pet’s Howl might accidentally displace - and bump off completely - something like Flask of the Titans.
So - ask before you use the wolf. Owls / birds with Screech (rank 4) have better contribution, as Screech will stack with Demoralizing Shout for better damage mitigation on tanks.
Oh well that explains alot, I didn’t know they were nerfed in 1.12. RIP.
Also pets don’t get the aoe damage reduction until TBC, so most melee pets will die fast.
faster attack speed = more flurry procs though which is definitely something to take into account (if you’re playing BM that is)
I run a wind serpent and manually cast it’s lightning breath on CD.
It ignores armor and the pet is never close enough to deal with most melee mechanics as it runs back to me.
Another upside to this is it adds to the very basic hunter dps rotation.
Bring back Lupos’s shadow damage blizzard! You know it’s the right thing to do
Macro the Furious Howl to one of your abilities.
Use a bat or owl with screech . The damage reduction on raid bosses is great
Screech does use a debuff slot.
Cats best DPS.
Pet attack speed only matters in pvp. (1.0 not necessary but 2.0 may be too slow for BM talents)
Shazz is currently only boss it’s difficult to have your pet DPS and survive.
Use Stay to keep pets out of los so it’s easy to recall your pet from attacking to a safe spot.
I would be in heaven if Lupos was back to normal. =)
He is, “normal”. His damage was normalized in 1.9, which was long before 1.12.
Brokentooth is best dps pet in the game by a small amount. You usually want to use either brokentooth or an owl/bat depending on if you want pure dps or the screech damage reduction. Wolf is king of tribute runs.
ZG bat for screech.
Furious Howl is trash.
