Hunter Help please~

Can any of you pro hunters give me a quick run down of what are the best pets? Never played vanilla, didn’t start till Bc lol. I just found out about the having to tame a ton of other mobs to train your main pets certain skills and to rank them up.

From what I can tell…def want a wolf and a cat. Is there a certain wolf/cat that is best or do all of them basically do the same things. I read Brokentooth (or something like that) is the best cat due to attack speed.

At 60, your go-to for personal DPS is Cat. While they have 2% lower health, they have 10% more damage and can learn Claw and Bite (though you only want it to have Claw) as well as Dash. It’s pretty fine to take with you most of the time.

The second go-to is a Wolf. While it does less personal DPS than Cat (it can only learn Bite and has a 0% modifier on damage for only a 5% armour modifier, the least useful level 60 trait), it does more raid DPS through the use of Furious Howl. Mostly the melee will benefit from this (along with TSA), but if you have the ability to run in and use it on a Raptor Strike it does add DPS to you as well. This is also a decent pet to take when the raid boss doesn’t let you keep the pet on the boss at all times.

The third is up in the air. While leveling, an Owl is very useful as it has a high damage bonus (7%) and doesn’t have any negative health like the Cat. It also can learn Claw, but you will use it for its Screech ability - an AoE debuff that increases its survivability and does more threat is not a thing to pass up. The downside is availability, without running to Teldrassil you won’t see any prior to Felwood. A bat or carrion bird can be a substitute.

Lastly is a note on Wind Serpents. While it’s not going to be as good as any of the three above, it has a ranged focus spender that also does Nature damage, which usually in PvP people have lower resistances to. So it’s less susceptible to being kited and tends to do more per hit.

As for specific pets… the only one that really matters is Broken Tooth. That’s because the attack speed is murder on casters in PvP.

A note on some of the guides, they mention pets are not worth keeping on boss, and that BM isn’t a spec you will be (20/31/0 anyway). With proper pet micro that will not be the case and is the only way to deal more damage.

Best lvling pet is an owl with screech. they have better modifers than carrion birds. screech is an aoe attk and attk power reduction. caution in intances as it breaks cc.
Get a worg from SFK they have the fastest attk spped out off all the dogs with the exception of a rare spawn. later do BRS for the last bite/furious howl and train that to your sfk worg.
For caster pushback get broken tooth he has a 1.0 attk speed. When ZG comes out the bats have a 1.0 attk speed too.
The full stop best raid dps pet is going to be a wind serpent once zg comes out and you can learn the last lightning breath from son of hakka
THAT SAID. IT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO TRAIN YOUR PET WITH THE RIGHT ABILITIES OVER WICH PET YOU HAVE.
EX. if your going to do MC train it with fire resist and stam dont waste points on def. Wind serpents are the easiest raid pets to manage because they have a ranged attack. with ur trained resistances and set bonus resistances and or totems/auras you will have a pet that doesnt get insta killed.
Experianced hunters that actually move their pet will pick that sfk wolf as furious how buff and marks 100 attk powers buff increases thats groups dps by a good ammount. GL man

Ok, nest question…I tamed “The Rake” and his name just turned into “cat”. So how do I know if he keeps his attack speed?
