Is it just me or does hunter feel outdated? Their defensives, kiting, mobility (1x Disengage meanwhile every other class has 2x their mobility) etc. it just feels like every class has gotten cool new things over the years meanwhile hunters are just the same as it years ago.
With how much movement there is about, the very idea of binding shot/traps and any other ground placed cc is an absurdity
I would LOVE more disengage charges or ways to reduce/reset its cool down.
Yeah, all our stuff is just things taken away years ago then given back to us. Every other class has something new.
Hunters is that class that looks fun from the outside but turns into the farmer at some point. Hunter class does feel like it’s lacking or just the game play feeling less smooth as before. I think to much attention was put into just sv spec and not the overall hunter class
I just want the old toggle on/off Aspects back. Cheetah being a CD is useless and absurd. Totally fine with our damage being reduced slightly while it’s active, have to balance it somehow, but it’s less than useless as a CD. As things stand, even if I need a burst of speed forward to avoid a mechanic, I’m still going to do a spin jump Disengage instead of using my Cheetah CD.
This HAPPENED with the Legion pre-patch going live. Marks was stripped to bones. Google (removed Hunter abilities, removed Hunter Talents) sometime. It’s amazing, what Hunters lost to patch 7.03.
I feel like a few classes were gutted for no good reason.
Remember how nice Pally mobility used to be with all those interesting procs and talents? Now they have Divine Steed whoopity doo.
They def have yanked some really nice flavor from a few classes and replaced them with garbage while other classes got more attention. It’s wild.
And the visuals… its so bad, BM have the same visual for barbed shot and conc shot, meanwhile flayed shot is now gone. Wish barbed shot got turned into flayed shot visually ATLEAST
But the main cost of Cheetah, relevant to the purposes where it’d be used at all, wasn’t just loss of the 10% DPS buff from Hawk. It was the fact that you’d be dazed, reducing you to 50% movement speed, for 3s if you were hit for even a single point of damage.
I would think a better alternative would be to make it a granularly drainable CD: the longer you keep it up for, the more the CD drains away.
- They could have it also end automatically the moment you stop moving for some {safety period} tenths of a second, with that portion of time then being refunded. Include a small base cost, too, to prevent people abusing retained speed via jumps and using it only for double-speed lunges.
So, the 150s CD holds some 12 total seconds of duration, starting from +100% movement speed and fading linearly to +25% over its maximum remaining duration*. As such, you’d want to keep it nearer to full charge, but you could still use it for frequent little dashes.
- *This would provide up to 6 extra seconds’ worth of movement over its effect at full charge, up from the current 5.4.
- In itself, that wouldn’t be any significant buff (I’m just simplifying it to “double” instead of “+90%” and “fading” instead of having multiple speed tiers), but being able to activate only as much as you need while still having a strong, burst effect with no compensatory weakness would be a huge power boost.
They changed this in WoD. During that expansion, if you got struck while Cheetah was active, it simply “fell off”, and you had to toggle it on again. But there was no daze effect.

“Ha ha ha…. You serious?”
Maybe so and they still didnt get it right. Survival will never be right until they either pick ranged or melee, not this in-between garbage. So much potential for cool stuff and it gets ruined continuously. Add some survival specific defensives!!!
Simple, I deeply miss Flayed Shot. It looked nice and fit our rotation well. Would help with our outdated damage as well.
We are the least visually appealing class to play. All I see is dots. An occasional affect from the other spells, but the rest… dots.
Pretty sure their whole reason for making SV melee was because they wanted a spec that used polearms (which were pretty much a dead weapon type). I wish, if it’s going to stay melee, they’d just make it like a warrior with a pet, not the weird mish-mash it currently is.
Could not agree with you more. Hunter kit is beyond outdated. Every melee class in the game minus Rets has at least 3 gap closers and a freedom and hunters get 1x disenage, feels so bad getting trained down by double melee as a class that survives off kiting but you cant even do that. Melee classes have too many abilities that they can use at range as well. Aka storm bolt, DH incaps, 30 ayrd monk disarms, the list goes on. Meanwhile we are standing still to cast things like Aim shot if u play MM which hits for like 38 to 50k non crit. Time to reroll I think.
This was a minor glyph added in Cataclysm.
Yes. They sunk an enormous amount of effort into reworking SV in both Legion and BFA. It evidently came at the expense of the other two. MM released in BFA in a totally dysfunctional state while BM’s talents had almost seen no iteration since the start of that beta. Meanwhile SV was getting entire abilities developed and added only to be removed and replaced with other entirely new abilities (e.g. Artic Bola => Wildfire Infusion).
It will never be right until they pick ranged.
Warriors, Paladins, and Death Knights can use polearms and there’s nothing stopping Blizzard from making polearms itemised for them. They’ve all used polearms in WoW’s past.
Specs using specific weapon types is a Legion thing.
No, they should not design Survival as a “Warrior with a pet” because it’s a Hunter spec not a Warrior spec… despite where the intended audience of the spec comes from.
As for the core premise of the thread: yes, Hunters are outdated. They’re still designed as if it’s MoP and WoD which is nowhere near sufficient for modern class design.
I also don’t know of any other class that gets crucial abilities straight-up removed mid expansion whenever Blizzard doesn’t like them getting any good (Readiness in MoP, Killer Instinct in Legion, Double Tap in BFA).
I thought that as well, at first. But before I posted, I checked all glyphs added in Cataclysm, and I couldn’t find the one.
I didn’t play much during MoP so I didn’t recall when I first saw the modification. I recalled it being there during WoD, but the change they did there was that it no longer appeared on your stance bar.
Anyway, the glyph in question was added in MoP: Cheetah
Its takes like these that ruin the game. Traps are a hunter staple. If you can’t use them effectively that’s on you. They are very potent with the low CD. Something people need to understand is Hunter is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. That’s the draw of it. Feels good. If you don’t want to be the person playing chess pvp on a different class. Might I suggest a fury warrior?
Snap back to reality. It’s an outdated mechanic that no longer works.
