Hunter Dungeon Tips

Hey All!

I’m a level 120 Dwarf Hunter and after completing the BFA campaign, I wanted to try my hand at dungeons. Having done four random dungeons, I just wanted to ask the community.

As a hunter/DPS in dungeons, what tips might you guys have that I should know for being as effective as possible in dungeons and raids?

I appreciate any and all feedback!

Growl usually turns off when you enter dungeons and raids, but doesn’t hurt to check.
Unless you’re off tanking or something around fending for yourself, I recommend using a SB as Exotic or a personal choice of yours(use Clefthooves or Scalehides for solo content or when in a small group).

feign death is probably the best utility spell you have. you can use it to cause mobs to lose their target which means channeled spells are interrupted. like the 2nd boss in the troll tomb dungeon has a channel that does a lot of damage but you can feign death to interrupt the channel. also, don’t use barrage. didn’t check if you even have it talented, just saying in case.

I appreciate the tips! Just out of curiosity, why not use barrage? I assume it would be because of it’s range and possibility to pull in new enemies to a fight

exactly. it’s just asking for people to be toxic to you if you make any minor mistake with it and it’s a very easy to screw up spell.

Little late to the party. Ignore me if you run Survival since I have no clue how to use them and the fact I refuse to play that Spec.

As Beastmaster, always have your cleave up all the time with Multi-Shot but don’t spam it to much, let it run off or close to it and refresh while maintaining barbed shot, don’t worry about putting many on multiple targets, just focus on one target at a time. while most people say to use barb shot to avoid it being capped at two charges but I always save mine until I need to refresh it. (If you aren’t aware, barb shot increases your pets attack speed significantly which is most of your damage.)

As for Marksmanship hunter, I wouldn’t worry about multi target as much since they aren’t as great but better for single target. However, if they are grouped up together, do use Multi shot before any use of Aimed Shot and Rapid Fire to do any cleaving. If there is any priority targets like healer enemies or something that may contribute to the group’s death, just try to focus on single target (or multi-target if they’re grouped close enough for multishot) and just kill a target at a time and move onto the next weakest. The one thing to note is predicting if you can get Aimed Shot off before the target dies (Otherwise you’d waste time and nothing was done) and forced to recast on the next target, same goes for Rapid Fire, don’t let a target die before finishing Rapid Fire unless it happens to be your last enemy. When this sort of thing happens and sure it’ll die before Aim Shot is fired, just use Arcane Shot/Multi-Shot instead. Or move to the next target and cast Aimed Shot/Rapid Fire. I found it easier doing the latter since I could still kill the weakest if there is 3+ enemies. Especially with Rapid Fire and I may still likely finish the full channel too.

For every Hunter’s case, always have a macro set up for Misdirection, Tanks will love you for it. I don’t have a completely best macro for Misdirection but it helps avoid needing to go off target all the time but sadly since I’m not quite at home to post my macro setup, you’ll have to look up examples which often will revolve around focus-targeting which will help instantly cast Misdirection on your tank and direct all aggro you earn to them. Saying this because Hunters do hurt a ton and will steal aggro at times. Always use Misdirection first before attacking, don’t cheat and try to cast it before your bullets/arrows hits anything.

And lastly as a general rule for multi-targeted situations, compare damage of your single target abilities, Cobra shot/Arcane shot to your Multi-Shot. Their damage will be drastically different and you can figure out how many targets it takes before those single shot abilities are not worth using and must use Multi-Shot for better damage. Its quite obvious for Marksmanship as you’re forced to use it on three or more targets but never use it on anything two or below. Beast Master is the same but personally its better to use it anyways because your pets will be doing the damage anyways. It does come down to personal opinion with Beast Master in that regard but always start cleaving at 3 or more enemies grouped together no matter the spec.

If you want more detailed info, I’d say look up Icy-veins’ or Wowhead’s take on hunters. they do have guides for just about everything for 120’s. Don’t take them too seriously, just try to have fun and improve from what you can learn and if it feels right.
