Hunter Dual Wield Rune

It seems that part of the rune is a bit punishing when it doesn’t need to be:

Raptor Strike deals 30% increased damage when you are wielding two weapons of the same type.

What this means is that if you find an weapon upgrade, you still might have to find the same-type weapon for it to truly be an upgrade. So theoretically, you may just have that potential upgrade sit in your bag the entire phase. Specifically if you get either Mekkatorque’s Arcano-Shredder or Cogmaster’s Claw, you have to wait until you get the other for it to be an upgrade over pre-bis. What was the the intent for having to use two weapons of the same type?

it’s so that our itemization is cloned by enh shamans. it’s a neat add, just sucks when you’re sitting there with 1/2 weaps u need

but shamans aren’t required to wear two of the same type of weapon?

yeah, right? but they also want 2 slow weaps. so blizz will make slow ohs that are fists so we can share. like theyve done w gnomer.

for now it’s thoughtful but fr they’re gonna forget they did it lmfao

i aint giving up trap launcher for a minor dps increase kek

That is called game balance, you can’t have everything. Like you can’t have dw and trap at the same time.

it’s pretty major, like 1/3 damage increase. especially in pvp. but i hope it gets nerfed so the difference will end up being negligible & i can justify running it

Damage increase if you give up pet for lone wolf and give up traps

You DESERVE to 2 shot at that point, because your utility is trash! Anyone being killed by a hunter in melee with no pet and no traps is straight garbo in pvp and i dont take it back.

A hunter with pet and with traps is infinitely more OP for pvp and can lock down multiple targets compared to raw damage which if you are a melee hunter, youll get CC’d to death before you even have a chance to walk up to a target unless they come to you. I’ve witnessed these so called ‘melee’ hunters and let me tell you, they are as bad as you might expect in pvp. All i had to do was kite away a bit and have them chase me into my group and die quick since they had no trap in combat. No pet. Nothing. They are no different than a literal NPC.

Non issue atm with 38-40 starter swords. Have the RFD quest sword. SM quest sword. Revered rep pvp sword. These are some of the preraid bis weapons too.

Yea for sure. I think it’s not an issue right now considering pre-bis is easily available from quest drops/WSG, but I think that going forward its going to be quite annoying to deal with.

One scenario for example: Your guild is trying to gear up to make progress into the next tiers (maybe MC to BWL or something like that). Do you give that shiny new 1h to a hunter who has to wait until the off-hand or main hand drops to actually use it? or do you give it to a rogue/shaman/war who can use it immediately and help your overall dps of the raid?

In good faith, I’d love to hear some counter arguments of why it’s not bad design

Those are 2.2 speed weapons though, so you want slower – at least in your main hand. (offhand does 25% less damage so it’s not as bad of a hit if your weapon isn’t as slow as it needs to be). Also apparently the RFD quest sword is being used as offhand for a lot of good hunters (I guess because of the +AP) on it.

Generally speaking, slower weapons are better for melee hunter because Raptor Strike isn’t normalized in the code (because it’s normally an “on next melee” ability), meaning that it straight up does weapon damage + bonus.

Well I got Arcano-Shredder and can’t use it until I get Cogmaster.
Imo they should tone down the damage bonus to like 15% to reduce melee dps and allow us to use 2 different weapon types.

That is why you use the 2.7 speed Ashenvale rep sword main hand. Still you use what you have nothing wrong with using those if they are the best you have.

Right now you can say hunter is strong because it has that limitation.

Example is carve is weak. Hits for 49-86 for me. Scaling is atrocious. Non issue because no one will care since raptor strike is hitting like a truck. I agree if the conditional weapons were removed it would be fine and make very little difference.

I suppose that in later phase, due to limited availability of 2x good 1h of the “same type”, melee hunters will not be as strong

Calling trap launcher becoming a QOL next patch not a rune

So thats why hunters got terrible +AP gear with no agility this phase.

yea we also have to wait to get both fist weapons to actually use them lol, but yea i’ll stop ranting

The point is to make you want to roll on every weapon just in case.

actually thats bc we get +1 ap for agi or str
