Hunter deadzone issues

First let me start off by saying that I know that hunter’s deadzone was a thing throughout the entirety of vanilla, and I am not asking or suggesting that it be removed in any way shape or form. It was part of vanilla and I welcome it. It was a class design you had to learn to play around.

Second let me be very clear that playing on a private server is probably against some kind of blizzard rules so I don’t do it myself nor do I condone anyone else doing it. That being said…

I had a dream that I was playing on a private server, playing a hunter and running LBRS with a group. I was standing a solid 15+ yards away and still couldn’t use my ranged weapon, several other people in my group confirmed that the distance I was from the mob(s) I was trying to attack was well over 8 yards. In this dream me and this group of friends all switched to another private server explicitly to test this exact same issue and it persisted. Standing well WELL over 8 yards away I was unable to dps.

Granted this was all a dream, but lemme tell you if felt so real. So lets just ignore the fact that this was a dream, and was on a private server (in the dream) and hope that this deadzone issue doesn’t manifest on classic when it launches.

edit: I meant to add - has anyone else had a dream where this problem has occurred? Specifically the the deadzone was much larger than it should have been.

It’s a good thing it was just a dream and that you are aware that pservers =/= Classic! Phew!

Correct, my post really was more of a “I hope this isn’t a thing in classic because I definitely don’t remember the deadzone being THIS bad in vanilla”

What was the hunter attack range in vanilla?

I’m pretty sure the deadzone was 8 yards and hunter range of attack was what, 30-40 yards? Not positive, but definitely not 15.

So in classic they will ranged attack from 8-40 yards, and melee attack from whatever range that maxes out at.

Deadzone=8 yards.
Max range with talents=41

Hunter dead zone wasn’t as big of a deal as some Hunters made it out to be.

The best learn to adapt and overcome.

Sounds to me like you ran out of ammo.

It’s not an issue when your in groups, you should always be at range when the tank is doing their job.

And even when your solo concussion shot keeps most mobs at range, except for the ones that have charge >:D

Play a Tauren hunter… you won’t have to deal with the dead zone as bad.

Melee range 1-5
Deadzone 6-8
Ranged attack 9-41(with talent)

The only time I hated it was when you came across a Frost Mage who knew how to exploit it.

Deadzone is 5-8 yards, not 8 yards. If a Hunter can melee you, you’re not in their deadzone.

Did the other players in this dream speak Hungarian, or Chinese?

In this dream where you tested the same mechanic on multiple vanilla private servers you may or may not have noticed that all of these dream servers run off the same garbage server core. AKA private servers are wrong.

Regardless of the OP’s issue, I’ll be amused to see how frequently this problem pops up. This will be the fantasy equivalent of a “well is it plugged in?” or “did you put gas in it?” for troubleshooting Hunter woes.

I am 100% certain that I had over 3000 Thorium Headed Arrows when we tested this, in my dream. I could run quite far away and shoot mobs, but if I got any closer than what I felt was about 15 yards, I couldn’t at all.

The reason I bring this up as hopefully not becoming an issue is because the same stealth bug that exists today for druids and rogues (If you kill a mob with a single hit, as the attack that aggroes that mob, even if it kills them outright, they still land a single autoattack on you, and this happens a lot) have had this issue since day 1 vanilla.

My worry is that this issue I had a dream about might somehow manifest on classic. Aagain, just to reiterate - I know about the deadzone, I am okay with the deadzone, but this was not deadzone this was double deadzone. It might be a non issue and I am getting worried over nothing, but the stealth bug existing for so so so many years just makes me worried that it might.

Even the best private servers still run on some janky code. I don’t remember deadzone issues in vanilla, and it seems like something that would be easy to catch in beta.

As an aside, you don’t have to refer to private server experiences as a “dream”. Blizzard won’t throw you in internet jail for dabbling.
