Hunter Class Bugs Full List

Hello fellow hunters, I’m trying to create a visible list of all bugs affecting hunters at the moment for clarity, workarounds if known, and visibility.

I want to create a running list so please respond to this post with bugs. I’ll try to test them (help appreciated though) replicate them and then add them to the list below. It’s easier for the developers if they can find the root cause, so try to find the situations to replicate bugs if able and add to your post.

If you see a bug posted that you’ve also experienced please reply to their post. This lets me know it has multiple sources of confirmation.

HUNTER

  • Tar Trap puts you in combat and makes forces pet attack if on assist (possibly due to the new root talent testing needed)

  • Disengage every so often moves player character in the wrong direction(possibly latency relatated)

  • Steel Trap can’t be used during aspect of the turtle.(intentionally patched into shadowlands and now feels inconsistent)

  • Steel Trap does not stop charging players while tar trap(with root talent) does

  • Camouflage casting camouflage then summoning a pet allows you to attack with the pet and cast kill command without breaking stealth.

  • Artic Bola does half the tooltip damage and changes tooltips when 1/2 or 2/2 points invested

  • Artic Bola breaks CC on targets.

  • Sentinel Owl loses all charge when you switch talents(bad for shuffle)

  • Aspect of the Eagle Tier set 4pc does not proc during aspect of the eagle buff

BEAST MASTERY

  • Call of the Wild summons the same pet, rather than random pets from the stable

  • Call of the Wild damage reduced by Animal Companion

  • Call of the Wild prevents casting Mend Pet as each new pet is summoned

  • Thrill of the Hunt crit bonus doesn’t show up on character sheet

  • Thrill of the Hunt crit rate value does not match tooltip

  • Barbed Shot damage over time does not roll over unlike other DoTs

MARKSMANSHIP

  • Chimera Shot breaks cc on secondary targets

Tier Set 2 and 4 piece can be consumed by wind arrow causing Aimed shots bleed and Arcane shot crit to not be applied.

SURVIVAL

  • Birds of Prey breaks CC on targets

  • Coordinated Assault Can be activated with pet/player rooted but sometimes not (inconsistent needs more testing to determine and replicate)

  • Spearhead Can be activated with pet/player rooted but sometimes not (inconsistent needs more testing to determine and replicate)

PETS

  • Pets can get stuck on platforms and will not return to the hunter(happens in arena and other areas)

  • Pets have difficulty leaving combat, pet play dead does not always break combat(must dismiss pet to leave combat

  • Pet play dead does not cancel on recast(must dismiss pet to remove play dead)

  • Pets don’t benefit from Thundering affix in Mythic+

  • Mechanical pets take damage while in water in all dragon isle zones

Can’t use Steel trap while under Aspect of the Turtle

Added to the list. Gods, this one has been a thing for so long now I forgot about it. Even though it messes me up at times in PvP, I’m just used to it now. On a personal note I’m sad they’ve killed the damage of steel trap a couple patches a go. It feels really weak as a capstone at the moment, though it’s obviously still decent for pvp.

The damage nerf is definitely a weird decision. I suppose they didn’t want hunters to use it in PvE for damage. The talent is still an amazing capstone for PvP imo because it doesn’t share a DR with entrapment, if only turtle didn’t prevent using it. :frowning_face:

Just tested the survival tier set does not work with aspect of the hawk ( hard to test but I used it 10 times.) We just had a similar bug with Spearhead not applying the bleed during AotH so hopefully it’s resolved soon.

  • Call of the Wild still summons the same pet over and over, rather than random pets from the stable as the tooltip says.
  • Call of the Wild still has it’s damage reduced by Animal Companion.
  • Call of the Wild still prevents casting Mend Pet as each new pet is summoned. (They actually claimed to have fixed this, but I just verified it’s still bugged.)
  • Thrill of the Hunt crit bonus doesn’t show up on character sheet.
  • Thrill of the Hunt is questionable on if all three levels are giving their crit bonus. (My overall crit rate is only about 5.5% higher with TotH, despite having 97% uptime on three stacks of Frenzy.)
  • Barbed Shot still doesn’t have rolling damage, which has been an issue since it was added to the game. It initially did very little damage and was considered a trigger ability, but now that it actually does real damage that rolling affect needs to be fixed.

Post on eu forums by Bicmex himself:

There is a bug with the Hunter talent called Arctic Bola. It can deal damage to targets who are in CC that breaks instantly on taking damage, such as Freezing Trap and rogue Blind. I believe this is a bug since other spells such as Hydra’s Bite and Death Chakram doesn’t deal damage to targets in breakable CC.

Pet feign death is bugged and will often not allow you to awaken your pet. Instead, it goes on cooldown. You have to dismiss your pet to reset it. This is especially frustrating for two reasons:

  1. You ALWAYS have to use pet feign death to drop aggro now. In the past, as long as your pet had not attacked the mob, you didn’t necessarily have to use pet feign death.

  2. Hunter feign death feels way less reliable this expansion. It’s genuinely not worth it to try to feign death now because 75% of the time, I will still end up stuck in combat and now my pet won’t wake back up.

Basically, the entire feign death process across the hunter and the pet feels wildly broken and useless this expansion.

Has anyone else been having issues with disengage launching you forwards and not backwards? I noticed it a few different times this week.

Ive noticed sometimes SV is unable to cast kill shot after using Coordinated Assault with the talents that make it usable on all health values. Both kill shot and bomb light up but will only allow you to throw a bomb.

I havent figured out what triggers it and seems very random

Theres a food buff from the Ruby Feast that causes this. I cant remember which one it is.

I’ve been telling about this for a while. I’m happy someone else also noticed.

Also I’ve done testing about arctic bola’s crit change. On my char with about 22% crit, all of my abilities seem to crit accordingly, but arctic bole crits for 4-5% of the time weirdly.

BUG: MM hunter mastery does NOT affect serpent sting.

I’ve been playing sv hunter for about 2 months or so now. It’s a lot of fun.

Looks like they are buggy as fuggy though, I don’t remember the other classes I’ve played being like this.

One thing that really makes me mad is you have to be careful with going in stealth and having pet out or not or something. What happens is in arenas my pet will get stuck up at the starting area platform. I am unable to dismiss it or command it and it just stands up on the platform staring out at nothing.

Although I’ve gotten used to it, I still forget about it sometimes and it’s the worst, I have half my abilities gone.

Things like trying to trap in turtle and spamming it for like half the time im in turtle, trying to figure it out, then you are out of position and weirded out and turtle is over, really suck for a player new to the class.

Thank god for bicmex otherwise I would have no idea about anything. Like the ebola breaking cc…

This one is so freaking annoying!

What’s really weird is sometimes it won’t I had a game just before where I tar trapped and a good 3 seconds into the root my pet was like “We FIGHT NOW!” ok??

Pets don’t benefit from Thundering affix (at least last I saw) Don’t play BM in M+ because of this and lousy AoE

Just to confirm, by rolling damage you mean if you take haste the duration lasts shorter and doesn’t gain additional ticks on the dot that provides the buff?

Think he means, if BS ticks for 5k damage over 8 secs, if you reapply BS because of a proc with 4 secs remaining on first BS, that 2.5k damage isn’t rolled into the new BS ending up with 7.5k BS, instead you lose the 2.5k damage and have a new 5k BS.

Losing Tank Focus - great example is Azure Vaults, every time you use a “book” to move to another floor, your focus target is lost. Leaves you mashing Mis-direct and wondering wtf until you realize. RLP, Academy also have issue.

Pretty much all DoTs will add any remaining damage in the last 30% of a DoTs duration to a new application of that same DoT. To my knowledge, Barbed Shot is the only DoT in the game that doesn’t do this.
