Are hunters that have pets named with strange looking characters always bots or just most of them? And why would they do that if it make them stand out more?
Most times it’s Chinese character pet names or just the default when you tame them i.e Boar, Cat, Owl.
I usually follow along to see if they are clearly on a set path and if I notice they do the same behaviour I will report it.

Definitely watch the behavior as stated. Most bots will tuck themselves away so they’re harder to ‘catch’.
They’ll repeat the same actions over and over (aka the script). And will immediately target and turn to the next target.

I name all my pets Cat lol. Cat is my owl pet and a faithful companion.
