So I’ve decided to level my hunter (OMG LOVE ENGINEERING! So many cheap bullets! Just have 20 power and 20 of the ore in my bags in case i need to make some mid dungeon its just great).
So I’ve never played hunter back in original vanilla (only mage and rogue) and was wondering how do I learn new abilities like Furious Howl for my wolf, I’ve tamed like 20 coyote packleaders in Westfall trying to learn the Rank 1 version of it.
Am I doing it wrong? Is there any way to improve the chances of learning it?
With pet skills you will find that only certain beasts will often know a skill and its corresponding rank- for example max rank furious howl is only known by the bloodaxe worgs in lbrs. For more information I do suggest looking up petopia classic and it should answer all your questions.
Head to Petopia .com, there is a list for every buff and the mobs that have them and at what level they are trainable… good info there and simple to process.
As others have said, Petopia is a great resource. But I think I can answer this. When you tame a beast with a new skill you have to use that beast until you learn the skill. It’s not something that happens automatically when you tame. Try using those coyote packleaders for maybe 10 or 20 minutes. Eventually you will see a message in your questlog that you learned X skill.
This may be entirely anecdotal on my part, but it seems to me that the skill may have a chance to be learned faster if you toss some food at the temporary “learner” pet to make sure it’s happy.
Well, in any case, it doesn’t take long to learn the skills, so even if you don’t feed it, there’s a decent chance you’ll get it quickly anyway. I’m probably the kind of person who just can’t stand to have an unhappy pet.
As someone said, beast lore is your friend. You use that (it won’t aggro the mob) and it will tell you in the mouse over tooltip what skill it has and what rank. Then you just tame it, use it until you learn the skill, then abandon it.
Also make sure you visit the pet trainer, always located near the class trainer in the major cities. They will teach you the current rank of growl, as well as stamina and resistance buffs for your pets.
Also remember when you tame something to learn it’s skill, it won’t have growl. So teach it to them first before you try to use them to learn the skill. It’s free, doesn’t cost any training points.
