Hunter abilities not scaling with Spell Power

ODD Subject here…

Hunter’s abilities are not scaling with spell power as they should. In classic/vanilla they benefitted from spell power (even if the ratio wasn’t amazing) it offered a unique way to play the hunter class.

I (17 hunter) have purchased and tested +spell power gear for:
Nature : Serpent Sting
Arcane : Arcane shot
Fire : Explosive shot
NONE OF THESE ABILITIES CURRENTLY SCALE WITH SP.

My hope was that I could use nature damage to boost chimera shot damage or explosive shot since both have been hit with a hammer recently.

I won’t deep dive it but if given any amount of SP scaling a spell caster hunter could be a very effective and fun “Discovery class”. Hunters really gained nothing like healing/tanking and melee is a hard argument as something new.

I’d just give up, blizz can’t fix hunters because they are incompetent.

Why/what are both of you even complaining? I’ve mained a hunter since Nov 24,2004. Hunters have actually been one of the most tuned/over-tuned classes since I can remember. Since you two complain so much about a class currently #1 in dmg and 1 shoting people in pvp, I’m sure blizzard would appreciate both of your feedbacks on what they could do to make the hunter class even more balanced

I smell a hunter trying to look for a reason to roll on the Kelris stafff

Honestly, I tried it because blizzard mentioned that pets scaled with hunter SP too and i thought a meme +nature damage stack would be funny for wind serpent. but i found we do scale with spell power, but at our level we scale better with agility gear. and since pets get ability damage based on our ranged attack power, it was also better for wind serpent damage. so we do scale with spell power, just differently and less efficiently than agility. as it should be.

Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting scale with Spell Power currently. Have you even tested this?

Wait do they?
That could be huge.

SP definitely impacts arcane shot and serpent sting. The raid world buff gives 25 SP and arcane shot gains 12 damage from it.

Agreed. In every version of the game they are the only class that has been broken and the dev team never speaks about the bugs over the past 4 years. In Wrath to this day pets can’t attack people in half the arena maps.

(hint, its intentional and malicious. the development team was farmed by hunters in 2019 Classic on Faerlina and intentionally break the class/do not fix things)

Take a look at WCL. There are 4 hunters in the top 100. When hunters were the best pre-nerf they were doing 150 dps and that was considered “Egregiously overpowered and game breaking”. Yet warriors and rogues are both doing DOUBLE that and its considered “ok”.

Its becoming more clear the intent of the dev team… malicious compliance.

To anyone who still interested this, the scaling has been fixed and is actually better than expected. I’ve been running full spell damage on my hunter in phase two focusing mostly on +nature damage. With the spell damage chim shot, does pretty impressive damage. As a bonus, when the sting is refreshed it seems to add additional spell damage to the sting increasing its dot by a good amount. i usually run lone wolf, chim shot, expose weakness, trap launcher and sniper training. serpent spread seems like the obvious choice but i actually find that i get more damage out of sniper training, largely from the secondary effect of chim shot critting. Serpent sting ticks for more than an auto attack and makes up a significant portion of my damage. Fun tip: you can get a huge chunk of bonus spell damage by running two caster daggers and adding wizard oil to each giving you around 50 + total spell power from weps alone.

This is exactly what I had planned to do when I made the original post. Thank you for the response I am gonna have to give it another shot.

They nerfed chimera sp scaling a ton in p2.
