For PvE play and aesthetics–i.e., appearance and fight/ voice animations–which of these two Alliance races do you prefer for Monk and Rogue, respectively? (I always like to know what draws people in and why; currently, I’m having a hard time deciding between these two races for these two classes.)

I think elfs are lame so if I had to chose itd be human. But the Real answer is Gnomes the kings of the alliance!
Gnome monks feel amazing, I wish alliance had players in end game content I would still be my amazing gnome instead of this filthy greenskin

Different tastes and w/e, but I went with human for my rogue and then nelf for my monk, since I didn’t have a max non-druid nelf otherwise. I also like having shadowmeld in case I gotta /afk which you wouldn’t normally be able to do on a monk.
That’s easy: nelf are known for their stealth; humans are known for getting piss drunk and throwing fists.

I think Maievs brother is cool from what I recall of him he kinda set the bar in my mind in terms of oh a NE rogue seems cool (I think he was a rogue?)
NELF rogue is uncontested for restealth purposes.

Funnily enough, Jarod’s actually a fury warrior. During the healer mage tower, he taunts, dual wields swords, and has abilities like whirlwind. At least in that moment. If he became more rogue-ish, I’m unsure.
To answer the OP, as other people have said, human for monk and night elf for rogue. Humans have % buff to versatility which is monk’s best stat, and night elf has uncontested restealth capability, not to mention the conduit activates upon meld I believe.

I made trial chars for both race-class combos, all of them female.
I agree with everyone suggesting a Human monk. I think that the body proportions look better for that race-class combo. Also, I like the Nelf fight (voice) emotes, but find it jarring for the Monk spell Provoke. (I love it for my Nelf warrior’s Taunt, though.) And as Duffle pointed out, Humans are better known for getting “piss drunk and throwing fists.” 
Rogue gets more tricky. I like the Nelf appearance and fight (voice) emotes. The Human emotes for just about every stabbing motion, which kinda annoys me. (I know could turn off the fight-voice emotes, but that removes some of the fun of the game.)
One thing that makes or breaks a race for me as Rogue is the interrupt spell. I love the Kick animation for the Human more than for the Nelf; but Nelf still may win for Rogue, as others have suggested–especially if the Human “stabby” voice bugs me this early on.

Zyngor, I had a Gnome monk once. I found her amusing to play, but I’ve learned that I like most WoW races for monk to look more agile and less, well, squat.
I’m confused, btw. Your post states that you’re an Orc; your profile pic shows a
Vulpera. Which are you currently? I’m curious which race won out for you as a Horde monk. (I’ve a DS Troll monk, whom I love. Racials be damned, she’s awesome in my eyes. 
I also have a Vulpera monk saved for a rainy day…)
