HUGE spec nerfs v. incremental nerfing and testing

Why are these HUGE nerfs sent out with class ‘tuning’? It come off more like you’re demoralizing the class rather than tuning it.

If something is overpowered, yes, it should rightfully be tuned. Putting out numbers that say things like “hey we are nerfing this by 50%, increased CD of this to 200 seconds instead of 30, and oh also reducing healing received from this vital spell by 30% because we felt it was too strong” just feels weird and not thought out.

Why not nerf something by 5% or 7% and then see how the next week plays out?

Nerf a top spec doing top damage by 30% and now they are doing bottom damage and are no longer “viable” in the sense of people wanting this spec in their groups. It’s demoralizing and frustrating to the players. It doesn’t instill any sense of faith that classes/specs will be ready to perform, whether it’s in raid the next day or for prog with the next expansion launch.

I’m just asking for reasonable numbers, or maybe some insight into why if you see a tree grow taller that the others, you decide to chop the tree down and make a dining room set out of it instead of just pruning it.
