HUGE mount bug: invisible mounts, able to interact

It has happened to me a couple of times and it is happening to me right now in Drustvar.

I’m glad there is a post on this. This just started happening to me last night, I was on my restoration druid alt, I didn’t pay much attention to it at first and assumed it was a problem on my end.

But it’s happening to me right now on my shadow priest alt in Dalaran. I of course initially thought it was some sort of lag issue, but being in Dalaran, I can see other players moving normally and going about their business.

When this happens out in the world while questing it is actually a very annoying problem, as you cannot use any abilities because if you try to you get the “You are mounted” error message.

I’ve been seeing the same issue for a few weeks now. Really annoying. Fix this Blizzard!

Having the same issue, very irritating. Please address this soon.

I’m experiencing this on only one of my characters. I use a demon hunter to farm leather, and after killing about 80 mobs and skinning them all of a sudden my mount doesn’t show, I don’t “dismount” when casting a spell and some of my other display elements do not display properly. If I don’t quit the game, eventually abilities become unusable, and sometimes I can’t even loot. I’ve seen this a couple of times on a couple of my other characters, but this is pretty repeatable.

Today it started happening on my Demon Hunter and was even persisting across client restarts, so I deleted all addons, wiped all my Cache and WTF folders, and did a scan & repair of the game. The problem finally went away! Hooray!

And then it came back like an hour later, with no AddOns installed and no interesting changes from the default config (turned on things like auto loot, extra action bars, changed some key bindings, but that’s it).

Symptoms of the bug:

  • Mount never appears after mounting (but can fly etc)
  • Auto dismount (e.g. on cast) stops working, manual dismount always required
  • Quest log, tracker, progress UI stops updating. Occasionally updates in intermittent bursts but is rare and unpredictable

Sure would be nice to hear some kind of feedback about this. It seems like a major bug and it’s been around since 8.1 released.

Also having this issue. Pretty annoying having to completely restart just to keep playing normally. Not zone specific or character specific, also happens with no addons so it is entirely the game.

I think I’m experiencing the same issue, as I reported in a different Bug Report yesterday. “Peculiar (Interface?) Issue” I realize now that my so-called “lost” spell access is a Holy Power problem, and will amend my original report accordingly. Nice to know it isn’t merely me.

I am having the same issue but only on my horde demon hunter. I’ve reloaded, relogged multiple times, disabled all addons, deleted WTF etc. It finally cleared up but I have no idea why.

I am also having the same problem. Seems more likely to happen when I’ve had a longer (2-3 hour) play session. It goes away if I restart my computer.

Also having this issue, has been happening for about two weeks. I mount up, and run at mount speed but can’t see my mount. Also can’t turn in quests, or attack until I dismount my invisible mount. Very frustrating. More inconsistently, I’m unable to turn in quests or accept new ones. Please get this bug addressed ASAP.

I experience this most with characters that have some sort of combo point system. Rogue being the primary, but my Unholy DK experienced this as well. Since it’s difficult to explain just how messed up this really is… I recorded it as it just happened inside of the darkshore warfront to my Outlaw Rogue.

  1. I’m mounted, but the mount isn’t there. I dismount and remount to show that.

  2. I go to engage in combat to show that I can’t use stealth abilities even though I am in stealth.

  3. I go attack the elite mobs to show how the combo point system becomes temperamental. Some times I get them, some times I don’t.

  4. I die because I didn’t notice my HP was low from the target of target frame. Had I not died though, I would be stuck in combat and unable to mount… even if I use vanish.

Stopped the recording while I waited for the res, I did get the res, but my screen still showed me as a ghost in the spirit realm black and white with a functional return to graveyard button. (massive thank you to everyone in that warfront for not kicking me! I tried to at least look productive…)

Alt F4 fixed that issue but I still had all the prior ones until I got out of the battle and was able to log the toon out and back in.

One and a half months later, still no assistance from Blizzard. I have reported this on every toon it’s happened on (which is now all of them). I’ve tried running with no addons (completely removed them and did a fresh install of wow) and didn’t even move a frame just to see if it still did it with no modifications whatsoever. Unfortunately, that didn’t help at all. I’ve noticed that, even though I have no lag at all and my fps never drop below 80, my computer seems taxed and gets rather loud. Completely closing wow and the client out usually bandaids the issue, but it can start up 10 min later after logging back in. I’ve ran system checks. I’ve manually made sure all my programs/drivers are updated. I’ve cleaned out my laptop making sure there wasn’t any dust anywhere. Nothing else is running other than wow (I even close out the client). My computer is more than capable of handling ultra settings, but I usually play on high. I haven’t been able to pin point any action that might cause this bug, other than possible phasing issues. I’m at a loss of what to do. What started out as a minor annoyance on a couple of toons has become a game breaking problem for all of my toons. After the 7th time each day having to relog, I just quit playing until the next day. Fingers crossed that this is fixed in maintenance tomorrow.

Gross. Just had this happen on my nelf demon hunter while unlocking the nazmir base camp during a nazmir invasion. It started with intense loot lag (I looted a green and it took several minutes to show in my bag but chat showed I looted it instantly).

Then I couldn’t turn in / pickup quests.
Then I got stuck in combat
Then the mount went invisible.

I can chat in real time and attack monsters since I don’t use combo points but everything else is laaaaaaged to hell

Fun times

Still better than LOTRO…

well, the problem went away and just came back again. I’ve had this on and off for about a week now. Sometimes it’s fixed easily by relogging and sometimes I have to sit and mess with addons/deleting WTF folder/etc till it stops.

Have the same issue almost daily on my warrior alt on Garrosh. First in the Outlands and now in Northrend as well. When I start playing the game it’s fine for about an hour. When my mount becomes invisible I know it is starting all over again. Unable to turn in or pick up quests, mount invisible, lag and NPC disappear once in a while. When I am exiting the game and come back 15 minutes later it starts all over again.

i too have been experiencing this bug since the launch of 8.1 can a BLUE plz update us

I had a bit of a discovery today. Once again the bug happened and wasn’t going away across restarts. Rather than wiping everything again, I started deleting individual WTF files and restarting.

The thing that did it was Blizzard_CombatLog.lua in WTF/Account/{accountname}/SavedVariables. After deleting that and restarting the client, the bug was gone.

When it came back, I once again tried restarting, bug still there, deleted that single file and restarted again, bug gone.

So I assume this is tied to a bug in combat logging, probably breaking some important Lua state which cascades into various other things failing.

From what I can tell, many of the instances of this bug are occurring on Demon Hunter characters, which is also the case for me. I know other classes are experiencing it as well, but a lot do seem to be DHs.
