Hello all,
Recently I’ve been noticing issues with WoW closing abruptly due to “Not enough memory.” I find this odd because my computer has 16GB of ram and I never had issues with memory before.
If I run Task Manager or use a program which lets me watch my memory usage, it appears that WoW will spike randomly from 8-10GB of Ram usage to 14-15GB. This happens regardless if other programs are running and even after deleting my WTF folder.
My drivers are up to date and this only happens during WoW, but is not related to graphic intensive moments like arenas/raids, but even during solo leveling.
If anyone has any suggestions to try and alleviate this issue I would be very appreciative!

Somethings not right there as you know Siphonlife. On the task manager beside Wow click the > to open things. What is shown there.
When i click the > It shows “World of Warcraft” and “World of Warcraft Voice Proxy.” I noticed also, that the Ram load from WoW started at 30% and slowly rose up to maximum until it gives me that error.

Have you disabled all overlays and addons?
How much is the Voice Proxy using? Like Jessail points out this has the looks of a UI issue. I have seen Voice Proxy cause this as well.
Voice Proxy was using a negligible amount that didn’t increase over time.
I just Disabled my WoW addons in the character selection page and tested (perhaps that is not the most appropriate way to disable addons). It appears the issue is still there. The load from “World of Warcraft” slowly rises until it errors me out.
Alright - it could be corruption in the WTF - addons also don’t really disable. They pseudo load. We need to run the standard UI reset as a test next.
As I mentioned this is a test. If it doesn’t help simply remove the OLD from your original folders then delete the new folders the game installed. This will return your original settings
how do i remove addons without losing the data in them. I.E. i dont want to have personalize my UI again is the data all deleted or is it stored in the Interface/WTF folders
As I said this is a test. If it stops the issue you may need to do that. It will be difficult to pin down where in the WTF folder the issue lies.
If it doesn’t stop the issue follow the instructions above to return your addons and settings as they were.
Let me know if it helps. We can go from there. We can try putting the WTF and Interface folders back.
Clearing the Cache folder itself may be the answer. It is possible the issue is there as well.
I renamed the Cache, interface, and WTF folders so the game could create new ones to work from. I am watching my RAM increase, but at a much slower pace. I will keep wow running to monitor how large the ram load gets and if it gives me the error.
I’m running around 5.5 GB puttering around Boralus with Edge open.
Please grab Microsoft Sysinternals Process Explorer. Run it after you’ve started WoW and select WoW.exe in the process list. Then change the lower pane to show DLLs. Let us know if there are any DLLs not from Blizzard, Microsoft, or your graphics card manufacturer loaded.
It shouldn’t be climbing should plateau - if it is we still haven’t found the problem. I would try DirectX 11 if you aren’t already running that.
Yeah the issue persists. I’m noticing the Ram load increasing to the same point as before renaming my files.
I downloaded Process Explorer but I am confused as the how to change the lower pane to show DLLs.
With the process explorer window selected hit ctrl+d, it’s also under the view menu.
Switching from Direct X 12 to 11 seems to have halted my ram increase
Alright there are known issues with some systems and DX12 currently. You may need to keep it on DX 11 until those get sorted out.
Go ahead and remove the OLD from your original folders. Delete the new ones the game installed.
Forsure, I remember switching to DX12 maybe a month or soago due to some advice a friend gave me. Going to rename the old folders and delete the new to see if the problem was addon related at all.
Yes double check there. That UI reset is the number one fix for Wow issues of all sorts.
I haven’t had the issue all day, appears to be fixed! thank you
