there has hardly been anyone on in my mains character’s guild lately. people only log in for raid. the amount of people on my friends list has dropped significantly. the amount of people in general chat and in Valdrakken is the lowest ive seen it since the end of shadowlands. is it really happening is the game really dying. did blizzard kill world of warcraft on purpose? whats going on??? how are they going to have a blizzcon with no one playing their main game anymore. plot twist they spend all this money to throw blizzcon and now one shows up.
It’s summer.
People are out enjoying it on holidays or taking it easy in general. Add to that most people have probably achieved most of what they want to do by now in the patch, and it’s the perfect time to take a break and not get burnt out.
It’s mid S2. There’s usually a drop off as players have achieved what they wanted and are taking a break before the next major patch.
Plot twist: Warcraft panels spend more time talking about Arclight Rumble than the next wow xpac.
Most people have completed their seasonal goals, it’s also the last month of summer when people try and sneak in vacations + being outside before the weather gets ugly again.
What everyone else said, and also there’s been some heavy hitter single player RPGs released this year. Plenty of things for people to do in other games while they wait for new content.
It’s natural for there to be a decline in activity as people wrap up their goals for the season/patch.
Sure…the event that already sold out…like always…Blizzcon isn’t even about Blizzard anymore, its about the community, the parties at the Hilton lobby, Disneyland with fellow gamers…etc, Blizzcon is just the excuse to gather some players in the same location.
I’m ready for the next major patch. I’m playing some alt characters very lightly, that has been fun.
This raid was on the easy side, and Augment ruined M+.
People are phoning it in until next season.
I haven’t been playing much myself. I’ve been waiting to run the new mega dungeon but heroic isn’t dropping till September 5th…
A lot of players are going back to school by now and the patch is old enough that plenty of players have done a lot of the content and have managed to get geared up on their alts.
I log into WoW and everyone is gone.
I log into FFXIV and Limsa is empty.
Barely a crafter out in Vivec.
My entire friends list on Discord:
Currently playing Baulders Gate: 3
This is the perfect time of year to finish up those outdoor projects before winter starts to settle in. I’ve got a couple of goals left for this season but I am probably going to take a slight break myself before the next raid patch comes out.
Diablo IV, Dave the Diver, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Palia, some good Steam sales, and a whole car load of other new games to play.
If it wasn’t turn-based combat, I’d be playing it too.
No matter how good the story is, the first battle will ruin all enjoyment for me.
It is basically DnD in a video game.
its a seasonal thing. it’ll pick back up soon.
In addition to the other comments (which I think are correct), I also think the rapid-fire content release has cut down on non-raid/non-dungeon play.
I used to be the type of player who would do all the world content, all the collecting, all the rep stuff, get all the toys/pets/mounts, you name it.
But they’re putting out SO MUCH now, and so quickly, that it’s just gotten overwhelming, and I don’t even bother anymore.
And I know I’m not the only one.
Dragonflight was dead at release. No bragging about sales numbers like every other expansion.
Mid-season inbetween patches is when things slow down. People have CE/AOTC already, their gear is already maxed out, and they don’t need to farm M+ anymore.
Blizzard knows this which is why we keep getting the .5 and .7 patches so much faster now. If there was literally nothing for 2-3 months inbetween major patches then people would unsub.
