Hpal of MW

Thinking about picking up a second all rounder toon to tank in PvE on while continuing to focus on healing in PvP. I’m conflicted because I do a lot of Blitz and MW feels like the better pick, but Hpal seems better outside of blitz and more consistently good in PvE for healing and tanking.

The decision is also hard because I think they are both really fun, but they are almost opposite in terms of play style.

Paladin is a very overpopulated class. Both choices are melee oriented healers. Brewmaster isn’t good according to everything I see, but Windwalker is the best it’s been in years. Ret is good too, but again, overpopulated.

Safe pick is Paladin, unique pick is Monk. Monk also gets many more choices for races, and the new mog this season for them looks sick.

I’d choose Monk because I’m a hipster like that I guess. Oh and also, you’re already a Priest. If you really love the Holy Light, you should do Paladin of course. But if you want a new kind of magic, Mistweaving is unique as you can get.

Brewmaster is tons of fun if you like the monk aesthetics, it does just fine unless you’re doing super high keys and even then it can do the job it just needs potentially more attention from the healer than a vdh or paladin might.

Hpal is fun too but I personally don’t enjoy the way it heals in pve very much, it just feels clunky to me. I also struggle with it if the group is really spread out which kind of has to happen on certain fights like the last boss of rookery. Mistweaver is great fun, being flag carrier in blitz is tons of fun. I love grabbing the pvp talent that lets you cast while moving during lighter than air so you can channel and spam heal while carrying a flag.

I do think, and have heard from others, that prot pally is one of the squishiest tanks and is extremely punishing on mistakes. Both Brew and prot pally are at the bottom in terms of health pool so I think it’s easy to get chunked and panic on them compared to bdk or prot war.
