So today I got a new shiny 2 handed myth track weapon, looks great, fits paladins, I got The Infinite Hand.
But then I tried to heal and yeh, I have one whole literal spell I can spend holy power on and without a shield and not able to use that spell, I am missing out on some DPS and healing.
Why bother giving paladins a 2 handed option for healing spec when we have a main rotation spell that not only heals and does damage, but also interacts with other spells making out kit feel complete.

Ret needs it too (iirc, it’s been a minute). It should just be a magic light shield like avengers shield is.

Ret has other things to press though, HPal has two whole holy power spenders, one needs a shield and one is for healing.

Still no reason to have a spell that’s basically useless. It’s OK to ask for solutions to more than one thing!

There are plenty of spells in the game that are ‘useless’, no reason to change them if they are never used. We can’t change spells to make them ‘useful’ or useable just because, that would just make the button bloat worse.
Some spells are best left out of the equation since they are never used to begin with.
i agree. anything for the pals.
SotR should just be usable without a shield.
It’s a conjured shield anyway.

They’re never used because they’re… useless. If they weren’t, people would use them.
If it’s too many buttons, leave it off your bar, that’s always been an option.
Say your class gets 50 buttons you can use across all specs, some players will put 50 buttons on your action bar, some will figure out how to do a BiS rotation using 48 buttons and 2 spares for specific scenarios. Then players will complain button bloat and that there are too many buttons for your BiS setup and rotation.
Others, we just call that Dragonflight.
Making a ‘useless’ spell useable in all specs, but still being useless and telling people to just leave useless spells off their action bar is completely pointless. For SoR there is zero reason to change it to allow ret to use it, it does so little damage with ret having more than enough buttons to already press.
The idea of SoR is not to do damage, but to be a filler that uses excess holy power and to interact with other spells, rets whole setup is damage, build holy power and use it for pure damage.
For HPal given they allow us to use a 2 handed intellect weapon, yet not be able to use that important spell, is very much a bad design. There is a reason to change SoR because it is used as an interact spell and a filler to use excess holy power, not just for damage. And the same can be said for many ‘useless’ spells in the game, that they are only taken and used for specific specs for specific reasons, and if a ‘useless’ spell cannot even be used for it’s intended purpose they should change it to ensure it’s purpose can still be met under all circumstances.

Yeah I made a LFD and he is prot. The game gave him a 2H hammer though, hopefully I get a shield soon.

Three: Shield of the Righteous; Word of Glory; Light of Dawn.
That aside, I agree SotR should be usable with a 2h weapon.

shield of the righteous gives rets a damaging ability they can press when they need to swap to a shield to be defensive. it is not useless.
as for holy paladins, that two handed mace just simply isn’t meant for your class… should have chosen the one hander and shield from your vault…

Since they’ve had the pvp 2h int swords in Dragonflight, I’ve been using them. At the very least, I really wish they would have given denounce as a regular talent choice instead of just a PVP talent in 10.1.5

Honestly, when does this actually happen in any meaningful capacity?

Wouldn’t this entail swapping gear mid-combat? I don’t think I’ve tried doing that since vanilla; can that even be done in DF?

You can always swap weapons mid combat. The only difference between retail and vanilla in that regard is that swapping weapons engages the global cool-down in retail.
You had Dh tanks last season using forgestorm on trash packs in mythic plus then swapping to bile stained crawg tusks during boss fight.

SotR is meant for Prot not holy and ret. Your holy power on holy should be used for healing not for damaging an enemy with SotR. Its like something you really shouldn’t press on holy. And on ret you can’t even press it because you use a 2h.

If the party doesn’t require any (or much) healing, you can press it just fine, especially if you have Lightforged Blessing talented.

Yeah, that makes it sound awkward and clunky. Like, sure, it can be done, but also, is the shield really going to help that much on Ret if the tank dies? I feel like the three defensive cooldowns Ret has would be just as helpful and that you’d want to DPS the boss down ASAP and thus want to keep using your 2H. Arguably, with Intercession, Ret could brez the tank.
