How's Dev feeling?

I’ve seen some similar topics, but there’s not that many post since season went live (at least in this specific class forum) and was trying to decide between lock or evoker. Idc what’s better but sometimes classes actually just feel bad to play. And I’ve seen some post that have made me wonder if dev is in that boat? I just wanna shoot laser beams and they do dmg :joy:

Im doing on par or more dps compared to meta specs in both dungeons and raids. Its feeling surprisingly good right now.

I also tried flameshaper in dungeon and does about the same overall as scalecommander if your tank does larger pulls. Otherwise scalecommander should be your go to pick.

7/8 dungeons timed at 10-11 as Dev so far this week. Pulled over 1mill on one pull.

Rumors of devastation’s death seem to have bene greatly exaggerated and I couldn’t be happier.

Final edit.

I like it, but playing it in the raid so far has been bad. Probably an experience specific to me but um, the turtles move around too much, too much stuff going on, too spread apart and on the snake boss I can’t use Deep Breath or I die or something weird happens, I dunno, my rotation is gimped on that fight really bad.

When they designed these fights they were just like “eh, who cares if a spec can’t even function in it, we made a masterpiece bro”

The next fight will probably take place inside of a 10 yard by 10 yard cube where I can’t fly or move or do anything. This is the “don’t do anything” raid.
Then the fight after that will have a council that is spread 100 yards apart.

In my experiance the only boss you cant reliably cleave on is entombed sentinals.

Also not sure who the snake boss is you’re referring to. There’s at least four of those in the raid: Sszorak, Twin Fangs, Coiled Alter, Ula’tek

Dev feels pretty good on every fight except Sentinels. Math phase is bad for doing good damage, which means at some point you have to hold CDs because it would have time wasted during math.

The guy who cleaves if you fly behind him. To be fair though our tanks weren’t doing that tank dance properly.

I got assigned to the Trader guy, for some reason our raid leader was telling ranged to DPS him. But yeah I can cleave the turtles if I can actually attack them, that’s why I said in my post that it’s probably specific to me.

But it’s already too late, I’m already annoyed out of the raid. You guys have probably been playing Dev for like 5 years now, I haven’t, I don’t have enough experience on it yet to be able to alter my opener if I can’t Deep Breath, I get confused a bit still.

So for me, playing it has felt bad.

It felt very good at lower keys. I’m currently trying to time more 13s but also trying 14s and 15s with my own keys, and it’s starting to show its cracks. Not as bad as it once was, but I fear that it doesn’t scale very well with M+ and I am concerned it won’t be good enough for bleeding edge keys or the 1%, which Idk if I’m good enough for but really want to try! Last season it was unfortunately just impossible to do as it could not keep up in DPS.

Yeah, its tricky because you have to really hyper-optimize to be somewhat competative with the best dps. When I origionally made my first post, that was when many people didn’t have their 4-piece tier set.

Looking forward to now, I’m seeing some specs like demo locks absolutely dumping loads of damage (340k overall was the best I’ve seen). Best I’ve done personally is ~300k overall in an alter of fangs key. I strongly feel that we’re falling short in sustained single target damage. Everything else feels good.

That is always the issue with devoker in M+, even if we’re good in raid single target we can’t go that route in M+, especially when the spec’s strength is in cleave/AoE/splash damage however you want to phrase it. So I think we’re experiencing the same issue as always, but with the new apex talent it won’t be felt as hard as it was last season. I really wish Blizzard would balance M+ separately as difficult as it is just because I really hate when decent raid performance means underperforming M+ specs don’t get the buffs they need.

My best friend is a demo lock main and our dmg disparity gets insane in M+, but in raid we’re much closer together

Devastation Evoker feels a lot of fun now (not as good as Flameshaper used to be at the end of TWW) but you have to go 1 out of 4 for the Apex talents, which is kind of weird. They just aren’t worth it compared to the other talents you can get. You can pull some decent numbers. My friends and I just play with low keys but here’s an example 14. If you’re just playing for fun and not pushing the highest keys, it’s great to play at the moment but could also use a few tweaks.

It’s mostly that Dev can do good AoE at the cost of having trash singletarget but if you try and do both they’d be mid at both.

So, is more the need for single target improvements that aren’t just “Buff disintegrate.”

The 1/4 Apex build is good because it isn’t punished by downtime like on Ulatek, Altar, down-phase on first boss and the separate phase on Sentinels. The buff to AoE makes us slightly better at trash damage but doesn’t substitute being miles behind on ST bosses.
