How’s the Class for Demon Hunters? Are they still fun to play as?
It has a VERY poor showing for PvP in AWC! Doesn’t look good at all.
Mediocre single target DPS, decent AOE, poor surviability, no reason to bring HDH to raid or M+, VDH is good though.
I am enjoying tanking as a dh. But have done dps as well both fun. Even though I am doing low level keys I going working to higher keys.
On paper Havoc’s damage is really strong. However, that paper damage is super reliant on momentum and fodder which are both very hard to play perfectly like in the sims, so in reality Havoc’s damage is quite mid.
About Havoc:
- Hardest melee to min-max
- Said min-max involves one of the most polarizing gameplay loops of all of the classes (Initiative + Momentum + Isolated Prey, movement based gameplay). There is currently no way of avoiding this gameplay unless you want to pay a hefty cost.
- Rotation also involves a lot of ‘plate spinning’, aka a lot of damage windows to keep up (Momentum, Serrated Glaive, Demonic, Initiative, Essence Break)
- Decent in tuning currently after 18 buffs to their ST damage
- Fodder to the Flame is still there and introduces a lot of unnecessary and annoying RNG to the spec
- Hybrid builds, so you’re always doing ST and AoE at the same time. You’re not the best at ST and you’re not the best at AoE, but you’re decent at both without sacrificing the other
- Excellent M+ profile with a 40s CD burst rotation in AoE
- Meh raid profile with a sustained profile (Cycle of Hatred + Shattered Destiny + Demonic)
- On the bad side in terms of defensives, only has Blur on 1 minute CD. Netherwalk is unpickable as it is in the spec tree competing with throughput options
- And finally, DH curse. Chaos Brand. There must always be a purple.
I’m a “serious casual”. I’m maining a DH right now. havoc in raid (our raid is bring what you like to play for the most part), mix between havoc an vengeance in M+ (~15/16s atm). vengeance for world farming.
I find it fun but if you want flavor of the month/S-tier/meta, look elsewhere.
If you like zipping around, blades whirling, setting things on green fire, hop on in the Demon Hunter pool.
Veng is great, tankiest it’s ever been with the DIF and fiery brand spread 4 piece. Our self sustain is amazing with frailty. Great damage. Havoc is meh and if you want to do m+ and pug a lot, you’ll only get picked if you severely out gear the key level. Otherwise plenty of better dps specs to pick that bring more utility.
Just don’t bother with Havoc for this exp is my advice, we had our glory in BFA and that’s about it for DH, as class with 2 specs we should easy to tune and make right but our Talents are a mess, abilities hit weak and worst of all we get attention from Blizz about once a year, so you hope they got it right this time or you are stuck for 1 year with whatever they did to the class, also as we saw from DF beta where we were pretty good they nerfed us constantly even when DF released they continued pushing nerfs through and finaly with addition of our new terrible tier set it came to a stop. Than we got some minor buffs but thats it.
I wouldn’t call a close to 10% ST buff you got in total this patch weak.
(30%+ Annihilation/CS buffs and First Blood buffs, not to mention all the melee/Felblade/DBlades damage which also helps)
Havoc is obviously not at Devoker levels of damage, but it’s very decently tuned considering the fact the spec does ST and AoE at the same time. There’re a lot of specs in a worse position throughput wise than Havoc atm.
It’s not what it used to be, although it retains the abilities it always had and has a few new ones, its damage has been diluted through several damage windows, this makes applying damage correctly more work and removes the feeling of impact that previously there was with only one CDs/damage window, making it necessary to have a correct alignment of several of it to have the same impact and leaving a sensation of mediocrity in the basic damage.
You’re 100% correct. The class (Havoc) is a mess, and it needs a complete rework. Your damage numbers will look ok in BG, and arenas on the meters. But it’s mostly all ineffective inconsequential splash damage that isn’t game break at all. Matter a fact, it actually feels bad, cause your single target feels so inept most of the time.
Pro players will be playing the best specs. There was more DH than some other specs. Any class can easily hit 2400 if the skill is there.
