So, we all have seen (and joined in) the threads of what has gone wrong with SL so far, and since its still fairly early and plenty of time for the xpac to swap to great, how would you do it? What changes would you make going forward?
For me it would be a small list, but mostly focused on Balancing and QoL.
-
Make a hardmode Torgast- The nerfs were something i apricated since i don’t find Torgast fun and just want my soulash and be done with it, some people DO enjoy the more hardmode Torgast, even with endless. The ability to do unnerfed Torgast (or even buffed!) for them should be a option from a NPC, esp if its tied to some cosmetic reward to work towards (ala mage tower)
-
Uncouple the covenant class abilities from the covenant choice. I know it seems stupid, but right now the covenants are VERY badly balanced, likewise for plenty of us, the theme of the covenant we want, is often the one that is bad for our spec. Leave the signature abilities (fleshcraft, door of shadows, ect) with your covenant choice, but the class abilities have a NPC near the flight master who helps you attune yourself to one of the realms to gain their class ability. This would go a long ways to helping with the balancing and letting people pick the cov they enjoy. Put a gold cost like reforging in BFA where it goes up with every use, and now we have a way to also swap out for content, while discouraging doing it constantly.

I’ve said it many times, separate the rows in the great vault. Loot rarity has been one of the biggest complaints, and the great vault is demodivating since it replaced re-roll tokens +mythic chest +conquest chest, potentially 5 items, for a single item you get to pick (and sometimes you just don’t get anything useable) Let people pick 1 item from each row they did… 1 from raid, 1 from mythic+, 1 from conquest. This would help alleviate the loot shortage, and encourage people again to run all content.
-
When pathfinder is released… do it as 1 single achievement, you can put the same amount of work pt 1/2 would require, but leave it a single achieve, the biggest gripe people have at this point, is the part 2 time gating.
-
Bring timewalking loot back up to heroic dungeon level, including from the vendor to make it a alt friendly way to gear up again, likewise with M+ tweak it so some of those combos just dont happen, there are some weeks people just have like no desire to run because of how punishing it can be.

Fix scaling for Legion raids and open world!
Now that my essay is done, what would you all suggest as your opinions to turn SL into a great xpac?
How would I, Wild, the teeny Hunter, improve Shadowlands?
I would make a pet battle Torghast that is just three floors. It contains three easy pets on the first floor, four pets on the second, and one boss on the third! And your pet team gains an anima power and restores their health with each battle. There would be no death counter, though.
It would reward Mawrats of varying shapes and sizes.

This is such a chaotic question… ooooh can’t wait to see the replies, I like chaos.

I’d love to give you a meaningful response, but I don’t know what is wrong with Shadowlands.

I’d give people ground mounts in the Maw, give flying mounts everywhere else, give back the flight whistle, buff the hell out of anima gains from all sources and add pet, toy and mount drops (10% drop rate) to all rares/bosses in Torghast.
Probably revert the loot changes too and give back masterloot to guilds.

To save an essay, probably my biggest rant is the new world quests. Having so many world quests be equivalent or longer to a regular quest while rewarding 35 Anima Power is rather unenticing. Some take 3 mins and award 140 or even 250 from the elite ones, and with needing AP every week for the Covenant Campaign I feel more inclined to do WQ’s this expansion than the last.

Delete this expansion and built from the start again like FFXVI, put more in game GM to actually ban BoTs and people who sell runs and make sure the class is actually balance. Have PvE and PvP abilities different so PvE and PvP can be balance without affecting the other. So each class get a set of skills/talents for PvE and for PvP. Make it so certain zones can be phase for people to have war mode turn on and in those zones you use your PvP skills.
Better m+ loot for starters. Nerf auto attack damage of all enemies in m+. I like dangerous/dodgable abilities, but having autos just do tons of damage results in really degenerate tank gameplay.
Not exactly what I meant. There is something “off” with this expansion, I just can’t put my finger on it.

Yeah, I hear ya.
I wouldn’t improve on SL. I’m more or less going to passively wait it out.
Ahhhh, i getcha sorry i misread!
That was one of my fav things in games like FFIX, Secret world and so on, with attacks you were supposed to dodge because they would maul you over the auto damage just smacking you senseless and the occisnal dodge ability.
I know what you mean. Maybe for me it’s the isolated zones.

What is this then? They do have tuning for abilities in pvp. The problem is that they don’t detail the strength of the abilities UNTIL you are in pvp. The tooltips are useless. But that is an issue that has been a thing since they stopped putting proc info and % chance since WoD (I am happy to be wrong about this but MoP was the last that I can recall having info in gear tooltips like say trinkets).
I think it’s all the time gating and what I’ve read on the forums about the lack of loot. I just feel no urgency to complete anything.
Question…
I might be wrong, but aren’t you are describing what war mode does? I’m confused.
We had this in Legion and pvp was very unpopular because of it. Templating sounds like a good idea in theory - but imo didn’t feel great when it was in the game. Based on forum posts, people who pvp don’t want to feel ‘balanced’ they want to feel ‘strong’ compared to other classes.
I think another tweak of all covenant abilities and making sure they all fit within classes and their specs would have improved it for the current live patch.
As a lone example… Impending Catastrophe, the Venthyr active for warlocks, is unused and clunky for demonology - but works fairly well within the affliction and destruction openers.
Shadowlands is a Class first expansion though - and on that front it has done well.
Moving forwards into the next patch? I dunno, give us a mythic affix where we temporarily get Torghast abilities.
Create a badge system again, if you do not receive gear from M+, you get a badge. Perhaps give one for raid bosses that did not drop gear on difficulties normal+.
Just one.
Make Torghast Mage Tower 2.0 - add new druid forms. All I care about.

I mean like total rework of skills for PvE and PvP. So each class/spec have a different set to abilities and talents. IE Aim shot in PvE might do the same what is is not but in PvP they might change it to say 110% AP with a longer or 100% but use all focus to do more damage up to 150%.
Currently state is hard to balance to same skill for PvE and PvP coz is different. It no sense the same skill coz the same thing in PvE and PvP so damage change.
dark rangers and for invincible to drop for me next time i run icc
