How would you feel about Race playing a bigger role in "Classic+" (visuals, unique spells or gear, etc)?

Something I’ve often thought about is how cool some races are, but that it doesn’t always feel like some classes don’t perfectly line up with them. For example, I actually really dig the Draenei (not suggesting they be in Classic+, just using as an example); I really love their whole “vibe”, the crystals theme is super distinct and pretty interesting I think.

Thing is, there’s really no class that quite captures that same flavor. They’re often depicted as Paladins, but where the class is very “traditional holy knight” coded, it’s doesn’t have a lot of visual or thematic overlap with the Draenei. Shamans do get some crystal-looking totems, but it doesn’t feel like there’s much cultural connection beyond that.

Another example might be Priests in general, who have always struggled with a specific identity, so they wind up generally adhering to very traditional “human Cleric” theming, which leaves Night Elves in sort of an odd position where Priestesses of the Moon are the most vaunted order, yet there’s virtually no connection to them via gameplay – in fact, a Balance Druid is arguably much closer to a “Priestess of the Moon” than the actual Priest class.

In an alternate reality, I could almost seem a universe in which each Race was its own “Class”, where you might get “specs” dedicated to different aspects of their culture, but staying firmly within their culture specifically.

That’s obviously not going to happen, though.

That said, it does make me wonder if there could be room for more unique Race-specific “stuff” in the game.

For example, maybe a Gnome Rogue can make a little clockwork toy to distract enemies to sneak past enemies or lower their threat, where a Dwarf Rogue might chug some ale to briefly increase their dodge rating and/or throw the mug at their enemy. Or maybe a Gnome Mage could amplify their personal engineering items or goggles with arcane energies, while a Troll Mage would have a better grap of ley-lines and could periodically spawn a rune of power somewhere nearby.

Okay, maybe not the greatest ideas in the world, but I’m just spitballing. The general idea being; that your Race does something a little more significant to affect the overall “experience” of your character, instead of JUST the class.

I dunno, just curious where you guys would stand on the idea? Maybe okay with extremely minor additions, but nothing dramatic? Maybe you do want significant changes, or something akin to Priest racial spells? Or do you hate racials with a burning passion and want it to be a purely aesthetic choice?

Not only races but factions. They should be distinct and unique.

Homogenization is what made retail so bad.

They need more race and faction specific items like racials, stat differences, and items.

I like this idea. It’s pretty rare that I see a classic+ idea that I’m just totally on board with, but here we are.

I’d say you can simplify this by making certain spells “look” like the race using it. For example, Dwarf Shamans using kegs or Gnome Hunters having exclusive access to mechanospider pets.

Something I’d like to see is more class-specific weapons like Anathema/Benediction and Rhok’delar/Lok’delar. I believe they did something such as this in a later expansion, Legion perhaps? I also want to say there might have been an interview or some discussion where it was mentioned that they had originally intended to do so but scrapped the idea? Could be imagining things.

Either way, add one for every class and make it a fairly lengthy and involved questline ala Scepter of the Shifting Sands.

I’d like this, only if it were race-specific too. I don’t want to see a Blood Elf wielding the Ashbringer.

Distinct visuals would def be cool.

Anything combat/performance related would get the fun optimized out of it in an instant by the current playerbase though unless its entirely disabled in instanced content (raids/PvP).

Classic plus should be the devs figuring out why old content is better and fixing the current sh17 show.

If you think the current retail devs are capable of any form of introspections you haven’t seen this.

Retail is completely cooked, the best case scenario is none of that stuff seeping into Classic+, not them learning from Classic rofl.

If we are talking + I think adding dedicated glaive weapons would be cool and allow Warriors, Rogues, Hunters, (druids?) the ability to use them.

As it ties into racials you’d definitely need to give night elves a +5 in glance weapon skills.

Decided to take a look at that link. Just had to add yet another thing I wish I could unsee and forget to an already very long list.

I was about to say its nothing nasty or vulgar…

But honestly that’s debatable lol.

Classic team seem like nice people, but their heart is not in the game and they dont “get it”, so as a result the the product you can expect is SoD-2.

I would totally be down for more race specific quests and what not with unique looking rewards. Race specific quest chains lasting from 1 to 60 could definitely be cool.

As far as unique spells though no, balancing the racials as is is already too much.
