How will tier set bonuses be handled S4?

Are classes that voted for S3 tier going to enter the new season with full 4 piece, and not lose it as they get new higher ilvl pieces?

Is that going to put classes that voted for S1 or S2 behind, as they will lose their 4 set bonuses early on?

Are previous tier sets going to be disabled so everyone starts off on a level playing field?

If the S3 tier set does not stack with the S4 version, does that put classes that voted for S3 behind since S1 and S2 votes will end up with two, two set bonuses early on, and S3 voters will only have one two set bonus?

Is that too convoluted, or does it make sense to all of you?

I do not think it is known if S4 set bonuses will mix with previous tier set bonuses that are similar. I would suspect no, but if they do, it wont be that useful. Old season items will still be very low item level, and the parsing is not that meaningful when people are still using previous season main stat levels.

i doubt theyd let 2pc/2pc beat full current season 4pc (at a high enough ilvl) if it came to it. might be a bit of an advantage earlier but tuning will throw it all out of whack anyway

i vaguely remember tier being easier to get in SLS4, maybe catalyst was up and running? idk if theyve announced plans for DFS4

but if theyre lazy tuning it like they were with SLS4 which got maybe 1 or 2 tuning passes early aside from some prepatch fiddling way later who knows

Something that I think would be pretty terrible is if S1 and S2 tier appear to be underperforming because S3 never loses its full set, and knee jerk nerfs/buffs happen based on that.

maybe the power from S1,S2,S3 sets just stop working like the legacy tiers and now the working tier is the S4

“lol no”
-Blizzard, most definitely

They’ll probably just deprecate season1-3 sets and turn them into legacy bonuses that aren’t active .

Probably just advance the item level far enough where players are incentivized to migrate forward by using the latest and greatest available.
Everything scales up, not just player damage, but enemy damage to players, such that in plenty of cases more stamina means more easily surviving activities on the leading edge of content.

I would love to see mix and match though 2p2p

Probably the exact same way they handled the transition from s3 to s4 in shadow lands where all classes had a repeat in sets.

That was because SL only had 1 tier set. Season 1 and Season 2 did not have tier sets.

Also they did that stupid community poll for which tier bonus you want for your spec for season 4 of Dragonflight.

You know, the one where multiple characters on the same account could vote. I’m sure no-one exploited that (looks at EU fury warrior votes).

I’m not commenting on the sets themselves, I was only giving more descriptions.

I still think they will probably do the same at that transition.

Anyone ever figure out the answer to this?

hey look a necro

I mean, this doesn’t seem like a question that really needed to be asked. Why would anything be changing with set bonuses once S4 starts? What makes it any different from having your Vault set when Aberrus opened, or your Aberrus set when Amirdrassi opened? It’s the exact same thing.

No, it’s not really the same. That’s because those set bonuses were all different.

Resto Druid Season 3 tier bonuses will be the same as Season 4 bonuses.

In previous seasons, you might be able to go dual 2-piece, using the 2-piece bonus from the old set and the 2-piece bonus from the new set, but that’s about it.

In this case, you could presumably mix and match any number of Season 3 and Season 4 pieces to get/maintain your 4-piece bonus.

The reason this question needed to be asked is for some perspective on how competitive early on in the season specs that chose tier 1 or 2 will be against specs that chose tier 3. If you chose tier 3, then you will never face a time where you lose your tier set. If you chose tier 1 or 2, you need to decide if losing your tier 3 4 pc bonus is worth your season 4 two set bonus. If its not, do you wait until you have all four pieces to change your gear or not? Seems like a very logical questions, which is why I asked it.

Edit: Something I was worried about was specs that chose tier 3 overperforming against specs that chose tier 1 or 2 early on simply because those other specs lose their4 set at some point, causing unnecessary nerfs. This is Blizz we are talking about, afterall.

it has been addressed maybe not in forums but on PTR I have played my disc priest and checked out this issue because as Disc I am one of the classes that will be playing S3 tier. The S4 tier is named differently than S3 and changing out gear breaks set bonus. I will be playing with 2 two set bonuses when I break it and until I get the new 4 set. As my 2-set bonus is for a raw percentage dmg increase to a spell I am wondering what that will look like and how it may impact gameplay moving through the season.

This was originally what I was hoping would be the case. Thank you for the answer.

A bigger issue arises tho.

Confirmed to not work and 2+2 of the same bonus does nothing. Meaning that if you are any of the classes with s3 and s4 bonus the same, you will need to gain 4pc before you replace it because you will only have 1x2pc active, specs like Arms for example, will be able to benefit from 2+2pc (2pc s3 and 2pc s1).
