How/When did you first hear of WoW

Short story…

My son and I always had a common hobby when he was growing up so we had something to do together and talk about besides school work.

We swung over to doing an online game together so went in to a Best Buy back in November of 2009 to see what games were out. There were a ton of WoW boxes for Wrath of the Lich King and LotR’s. We debate for a long time. I had never heard of WoW at that point, but my son had friends in HS that played. I was very familiar with LotR, but we eventually bought two copies of Wrath and the rest is history!

What is your story (brief)!

Father actually got me into this game (we’re both honestly gaming addicts) when he allowed me to test out creating a character on his account. Ever since that day I’ve been a big WoW fan, and have never quit maining my first faction, Alliance.

I was aware of WoW in jr. high some time in 2005, after winter break ended and WoW had just come out. Friends talked about it, but I was engrossed with my PS2 and GTA San Andreas and I didn’t own my own computer at the time so I didn’t pay much attention. My first real exposure to something heavily WoW related was the South Park episode.

My dad used to play, and one day, he showed me this.

Yep. My eyes had never and would never witness badassery like this again.

I would get my own account a few years later, and have made pretty much strictly Dwarves ever since!

Playing Everquest Online Adventures. Everyone started talking about
this “WoW”. At the time, I didnt have a PC, and had no idea what this
“WoW” was.

Me and my buddies used to play a lot of RTS games including Warcraft. So when it came out it was a no brainer.

My friends were playing it in 2005 just as we were finishing university. I stayed away from it bcoz i was focused on other things in my life. I had moved across the world and forgotten about wow completely. At some point in mid 2006 i bought my first computer from the money i had earned and wanted to play wc3 RoC and TFT so i went out and bought them. Then came the south park episode Make Love Not Warcraft in october and it just blew my mind. I went a few days after that to the store and bought vanilla wow and prepurchased TBC. From there onwards ive been hooked.

I was like 5 years old playing Club Penguin when I heard some people talk about(In CP that is), I searched it up and the game caught my attention, when I asked for my parents they saw that it had to pay monthly and so on, so I didn’t get to play. I spend then years playing Runescape until I finally decide to give WoW another try, I was 15 then, during the very end of WoD and now I am kinda addicted to it.

Friend played classic from the get go. He eventually got all my RL friends in on it. Finally convinced me to do it about 5 or 6 months b4 the release of WOTLK. Created my dwarf pally and what followed is a wow legend of epic proportions.

I used to go over my neighbors house all the time and we would game.

First It was unreal tournament, then tribes, Then halo 1 live ( ethernet connected to computer / computer program for joining games ) REAL OLDSCHOOL STUFF.

He was older and would always show me the new cool games that I would get to play when he would take a break or give me a shot. He then introduced me to world of Warcraft.

The first thing I ever did was play a hunter and die to a boar in westfall in 2004 or 2005, I got the game and started my journey as a night elf rogue. It was hard and I was horrible at the game.

What really got me hooked though is that I was at the boat in darn, waiting for my first trip across the seas when a higher level came over to me and started asking me questions about my gear.

I had no idea what to say or do I was a noob, But the person was so kind, explained everything to me and also gave me some enchants +1 to bracer/ + 50 hp to chest …low level stuff… And he also threw me some silver to help me out in me travels…

The fact that someone I didn’t even know came up to me, helped me gave me a warm feeling in my heart and I was ready to make more like-minded friends and I sure did. The people who play wow is why I really fell in love with it, and I suppose that why im losing my love with retail, due to LFG and other reasons that mitigate player interaction.

Sorry if I jumped around a lot and sorry for a wall of text, love you all.

heard about it around the time it was released way back when.
Was going to try it but I had probably at least 5 grand spent on games at that point (yes…Im am an addict) and like to read about games now instead of just shelling out $$$ without thinking.
I read a ton of reviews and figured that I wouldnt like it based on both positive and negative reviews.
Started playing two years ago only because my brother in law assured me that current WoW is nothing like Vanilla…and he was right.
Other than blizzards crap on Tuesdays mornings, I love playing the game.

I came from Ultima Online. My guild was switching to this game. That is how I became Horde. That is why I chose a Shaman, based on what everyone else was choosing so that we had good balance. That is why I chose the PvP server I was on at the time.

And I have absolutely no regrets on any of those choices.

I started with EQ1, and later EQ2. From there I moved on to DAOC and Vanguard. I think I was playing GW1 when I heard about this game reading the EQ1 forums.

One of the top raid leaders of the time (Furor) issued an ultimatum to the EQ devs something along the lines of shape up or I’ll ship out bringing a lot of folks with him.

He ended up working for Blizzard and I decided to give it a try. I played a Paladin to 57 in original before I took a break from online games. I came back to WoW around 7.3 and have been having a decent time since.

I started 5th grade in elementary school. My buddies brother was playing WoW and when we went into his room I was completley enamored by how awesome the game looked. I saw a spirit healer at the graveyard and thought it was absolutely insane. I came from games like Spyro, Sly cooper and Crash Bandicoot. I never asked what the game was though so I left wondering about it for a while.

A few months later my buddy comes over and tells me about WoW with another friend of mine. All of us were recently playing runescape so they came over and told me about WoW and downloaded it with me. Asked me if I wanted to be alliance or horde etc. First two characters were a blood elf Paladin and an orc hunter and I spent my first 3 or so years in WoW just exploring and running around with 5 people I met in game. Most of my middle school was spent exploring with them actually. I started towards the very end of BC.

TLDR: Buddy showed me it in 5th grade after his brother showed him. We just stopped playing runescape which I spent most of my time leveling and exploring so WoW obviously had me as soon as I created my characters.
