How viable is Tauren Shaman in Classic?

I’ve never played in vanilla, joined in TBC but didn’t really -actually- start playing end game until about Wrath! I played Shamans in retail, which in classic they’re totes obvie different gameplay, but I just mad one and well, I’m having a blast! Just got him to Lv10 not too long ago and decided to go Enhancement. Mainly to get over my anxiety of Melee Any tips for a sweet young thang like myself who’s just starting out? And is like, several months late to the party xD

If you really want to do okay dps as enhancement your best bet is with orcs because of their axe proficiency.

In general enhancement is not good in classic. So keep your expectations low. You might also have trouble finding a guild.

Tauren Shaman is super viable in Classic–if you intend on going Ele or Resto.

Resto will get you an instant invite to raid groups if PvE is your thing going into endgame.

Elemental will get you an instant invite to premades if PvP is your thing going into endgame.

Although the choice of Tauren specifically lends itself more to PvP than PvE. Warstomp is a great tool for creating distance when getting focused in PvP. The use case in PvE is significantly smaller in PvE (though it exists).

Troll is the defacto race to go with for PvE.

As the other user said above, Orc is the preferred race for enhancement, but that’s a bit of an oxymoron, since enhancement is the least preferred spec for any end game activity, and you’ll have a pretty significant degree of trouble getting into a strong end-game progression guild as Enhancement, especially this late in the race, where memeslots are already filled by established guild members.

I’m sure you can still find your way into pugs or more casual guilds if that’s what you’re interested in though, but your damage will suffer (beyond the fact that you’re Enhancement in the first place), just by sheer virtue of there being no way in Classic WoW to get 2h weapon specialization beyond racial bonuses.

With how short fights are right now, troll has a higher chance at top parses with berserking.

I have a Tauren shaman alt who’s 45. I think he’s just fine

Plus he’s a herbalist and the shaman racial REALLY comes in handy here. In the end, though, all races are viable and you should judge a race by how they look and move to you rather than nitpicking tiny performance differences. You’ll be spending months on him, after all. Plus as others have stated, the orc advantage to axes is only marginally better for Enhancement shamans. Plus Blood Fury is actually detrimental if you’re playing a class with heals since you’re nerfing your ability to heal yourself on a bad pull if you activate it. I’d say Tauren and Troll are actually better choices for Shamans.

I’m not going to sugar-coat this. How viable it is depends on how serious you want to push raiding.

Do you want to have fun and learn / progress with a bunch of fairly casual raiders? Sure, np. Do you want to join a more hard-core outfit that is pushing hard to clear content as fast and as competitively as they can? Nah, not really.

You wont get a spot in top-tier raiding guilds in Classic as Enh. You just wont. They simply arnt viable raid dps at the highest levels of play. That being said, that isn’t what everyone is looking for - and im sure you could find a home and have a blast learning and progressing with others of a similar mind

In a nutshell, This.

I’ve heard this, especially with their stun resist, it seems Orcs are the way to go! Low-key I’m a furry…

I was thinking of doing off spec/hybrid heals, thank you for the input!

Unfortionatly, my job is making me a casual player, but I’m sure Pugs are not too bad!

Enhance is a great leveling spec but going enhance endgame is a mistake. Slot machine gameplay in pvp where you end up getting kited to death over and over and just abysmal performance in pve.

Oh yes! That’s why I chose it! And because I’m also Lv10

Warstomp is incredible in PvP. Highly underrated. Combos well with a Fire Nova totem drop, Chain Lightning cast, healing yourself, running away from rogues after using cleanse poison, etc.

Increased health is underrated.

I’m having a good time with it, but it’ll be even better in TBC.

Oh yes! The armor sets look absolutely amazing!
