How to use Inscrutable Quantum Device?

Any tips? It does different things, how do I make sure it does the best proc for my DPS?

It has many uses.

  • Crowd Control Break
  • Execution Effect
  • Flat secondary stat buff
  • Mana back for nearby healer who is low

yea I just want the one where it increases haste, not the other stuff. I want to use it on every other pull in myhtic+

It’s random. You don’t get to choose.

I’ve been told many times that there’s a way to do it, which is why it’s the best trinket out there

From a quick google:

  • If you or someone around you is crowd-controlled, the device will eliminate the crowd control.
  • If a trinket is out and has the chance to kill your target with a certain amount of damage, the kill rate will be 100%.
  • If any healer near your location currently has less than 20% of their mana, the device restores some of the mana.
  • If you or someone near you is in danger, the device will spawn a target that draws all aggro.
  • If your health or someone near you is below 30%, the device will heal.
  • If none of the above are true, the device will give you buff on one of your secondary stats.

There does not appear to be a way to choose which secondary stat, or at least not that I can see. You could try to control the other events, though. For example don’t use it when anyone is below 30% health to avoid the heal effect. I would think the best way to use it, then, would be to use it before every pull when nothing is actually happening, like a pre-pot, for the stat buff.

It does seem like it chooses your highest secondary stat more often than the second highest, and seems to ignore the rest.

I think I recall there was a weakaura (addon?) that tells you what it will probably do. If you use it at the start of every fight chances are it’ll only ever give you the buff. I never had problems with it.

Yes, there is a weakaura. But, sometimes later on in the fight if you want to keep the stat buff proc you’ll have to hold your cds for a long time and it isn’t normally worth it.

It can be more of an inconvenience than anything mostly depending on your group and what everyone else is doing. I’ve received this trinket as the highest itemlvl trinket in 9.0 and 9.1 on this mage and it can be a bit frustrating to see yourself having to try and wait for the proc to change meaning holding cds which sometimes means you’re also holding your group back on a kill attempt (I’m guilty of that for waiting in the past) if you want to only get the stat buff. However, if you don’t care then you can’t go wrong with it. The execute from the trinket still does a good bit of damage.

It’s not random. It has a priority list. If you’re crowd controlled, it’ll always break the CC, for an example. One can check Wowhead for a complete list of conditions.

It’s an extremely powerful trinket. If used at the start of the pull, it’ll always give the stats buff (you’re not CC’d, the mob is not under 20% etc).

It’s your highest secondary stat.

I already know the procs.

Later on in the fight, as I’ve said it IS random depending on group and what everyone else does. The mana proc, the execute and the cc clearing it isn’t something that guaranteed for either one. I’ve used this trinket a lot in 9.0 and in 9.1. And I know what it could give at the start. It also helps to read the other reply that I made. You’re welcome

Okay, so you know that it’s NOT random. Good. Because you said it was random.

Then I’ll admittedly say it was poor choice of wording. But, none the less, if you want to only get the stat buff every use then it’s not something to rely on in that case. Ruby for crit, the bell for mastery, the wq trinket for verse or the one for haste would be more reliable.

You can bypass the execution effect with a self target macro.

From WoWhead people were saying it was choosing between their top two, not always favoring their top one.

I have noticed this in my own testing also, it bounces between your 2 top secondaries invariably, but the probability seems to be in favor of the highest secondary.

Still a bit of RNG with it but it’s a great trinket

Are you confusing it with the Unbound Changeling trinket?

It chooses the top at the moment, including buffs.

So I’m a brewmaster who stacks vers, but High Tolerance gives me +15% haste based on my current stagger level. if I’m at red stagger, I have more haste than vers, so it picks haste.

What’s likely happening is players are hitting their IQD with lust up, so it’s choosing haste.
