you can get the helm from the new faction on renown 13-14 and it become normal tier helm
Yes. If the piece of gear you are trying to turn into tier says its a champion quality that will be normal. Gear marked veteran will be LFR
Yeah, but LFR can be converted to Normal as well. The last tier (8/8) of Veteran gear, also depending on its source, will automatically turn an LFR piece into a Normal one.
When you upgrade it to those ranks the name changes from veteran to Champion I believe. So you should still be able to go off how it’s marked right?
Bottom line turning the gear item into a tier will unlock that appearance for you. I believe that’s more along the lines with what the OP was asking.
Many people did this with the gear from the Dreamsurges last season to unlock LFR Tmog
It doesn’t change, no. It stays Veteran since it’s still technically Veteran tier stuff. Only the appearance/stats change.

Understood. I guess I need to download some type of loot table for myself. With that said I think the OP was asking will turning an item into a teir will unlock the appearance for him to use as transmog. Not so much which pieces he needed to upgrade

So if I got the pieces already and transformed them into a set before upgrading them to 8/8, can I still go back to the catalyst once upgraded? Or does it automatically change appearance upon upgrading to 8/8?
If a piece of gear has already been converted, it can’t be reverted or converted into something else.
