I keep getting spammed by this thing in the social tab and I don’t need it. How do I at least hide the notification?

If you hit Esc and bring up the system menu and click Interface, a few options are scattered throughout the Display and Social to turn off notifications of friends/guildies. But it’s not possible to turn it completely off without an add-on. And some stuff for bnet friends can’t be turned off at all
