How to solve tanking shortage for mythic plus?

How do we fix this problem.

Make tanking not suck, anything pre-BfA will do.

Tanking doesn’t suck now it’s just a lot of people who did tank forgot how to use their toolkits effectively and probably were carried by end of legion ilvl swell.

Also this.

I feel people don’t roll tank because it’s not necessarily the hardest roll (healer takes the crown there) but you hold the most responsibility.

One bad pull and you can ruin a key. Position a boss wrong, ruin a key. Over estimate your dps’ or healer’s capabilities, ruin a key.

Sorry but I agree with her point… Tanking is hard every time I try to que for any mythic plus I just dont…

Ya go look at my record says highest is a plus 2. I did up to plus 4 before they implemented system on site…

Point is I cant bring myself to que for mythic plus anymore even when I do things right group always blames me for everything going wrong… Especially DPS who dont interupt blame it on me…

Mythic plus is a toxic cancerous enviroment that leeches your body of any health it had.

I know this has been said many times but do it with a guild. Or join a community that does them. There has been more than once where we fully intended to push a key, had one silly wipe then as a group just said, let’s just get out look.

I generally only run keys with a small specific group. We don’t push super high keys but if our +12 goes to crap, we just find a way to have fun with it.

Why would I kill myself to tank in a M+ with a bunch of high strung salty people when I can tank a raid and have a much easier job with mostly less jerk-like people?

The only reward M+ has for tanks is that it’s easier to get a group. But for an experience that’s often less enjoyable with a crapton more effort and stress for the same level gear.

Get rid of Mythic+?

Well that was easy.

I don’t do it because I don’t like it. I don’t like being rushed.

Honestly, I haven’t even touched a raid or mythic 1+ this expansion.

Whether that’s do to my class or me just tired of the game - I don’t know. I will say though, my tank has went from MoP (I found that insanely fun and tanked everything I could) to here which is boring as heck.

Tank balance is pretty out of wack and the irony of a Blood DK saying other wise was not lost upon me. There is a reason why you basically make up all the high tier mythic+ tanks and it’s not because you are are super skilled. So people have “tool kits” while others have an entire freaking “tool shed” to work with.

It’s a community issue I think.

I stopped playing my tank. I love playing him too. But I’m busy with life.

Playing the tank is the hardest role. When you play a healer you have to be paying attention and attentive. But the Tank has to start the fight, know the encounter, know where to fight, try to keep other players from aggroing more mobs. Keep an eye on everything and play their class well.

So the issue?

The Community is just really toxic.

You’re essentially not going to be able to get any practice in at this point. Like, to get good at tanking you’re going to have to run the dungeons and fine tune things. But you have to do that with people exploding on you.

So as long as the culture surrounding mythic dungeons are the same you’re going to see an absence of tanks.

I tank on other classes too my friend.

Also, me playing a DK has nothing to do with your inability to clear anything over a +8 in time. That has to do with you being bad.

Looks to me like the median says most tanks are pretty close to one another in terms of being chosen in m+ as well as their effectiveness.

Seriously. Any time a blood DK goes on about how easy tanking m+ is, it makes me want to scream.

Also OP - many tanks have dedicated m+ groups they run with, and absolutely 0 incentive to pug. That’s probably the core of the issue.

Also as mephiston mentioned, the amount of responsibility. Add to that the hair trigger people gave to rage at pugs…

I guess I end up back at: if you want more tanks, make more.

By taking the initiative and playing as a tank if you are able to.

I primarily play Guardian in M+ nowadays, I have relatively little issue finding groups, barring super high keys.

my alt tanks don’t tank pugs as much after legion. anything over +2 is a drag with pugs. In legion I would go as high 5-8.

this goes for time walking also.

I think that’s the real issue, the rage.

It’s incredibly discouraging to play with pugs, make a mistake, get called all sorts of awful names and the group disbands. Sometimes it’s just a single wipe on the last boss or something silly like that. You have the responsibility of keeping everyone else out of danger and absolutely must know the dungeon at a higher “skill floor” than other people.

I would never pug a m+ if I had a dedicated team that could perform well. Never.

Don’t get angry at the tank when they do a route you haven’t done before.
