How to show pet nameplates?

Is there a way to display hunter pet name plates under hunter names in groups? As a healer I am constantly having to find the pet and click on it to heal it and it would be a lot better if the nameplate simply displayed under their name plates like they do for them personally. Do I have to have an addon for this or is it an in game option? I tried a lot of different settings in game and nothing worked.

Raid frame addons will definitely do it. There probably is an option in the base ui too, but it’s hideous and takes up too much space, so another option is best.

I use elvui which has many addons rolled into one pretty package. I’m used to their raid frames and both mouse-over macros and clique work on it just fine. They show whatever buffs/debuffs I want to as well.

Grid is another popular one.

I need to know if there is an in game option before I try an addon because raid frame addons change too much when I am just looking for 1 particular thing.

Check on the raid frames section under interface. I’m at work so this is off of memory.

Base game with no addons, yes you can do this, but you have to tell the UI you want Raid frames in party. If you don’t mind the visual, go for it.

There’s an option on the base raid frames setup to include/ not include pets, and also to automatically switch to raid frames at certain group sizes. Play with it and see what works.

You also heal their pets?!

Wow…

O.O

I had a guy heal my pet in an instance one time, and that was super cool. Thanks for being one of those guys or gals!

But also, don’t feel obligated to do it… Both my Lock on retail, and my Hunter on Classic, I’m used to keeping my pet healthy by myself.

Man, you heal pets? your a good person. you dont have to either! May a hunter always pass on items you want.

How do I do this? I don’t see anything in game under interface options.

I forget which top level menu holds it, but the sub-menu should be called Raid. I changed mine to do just this a few days ago, and I don’t run any unit frames addons, so I know it’s there - you’ll just have to look for it.

Shoot, next someone’s gonna say they even res people’s pet.

The functionality was present on every 1.12 private server. And it’s the same client we were using in 2006. So I’m not really sure why we don’t see pets in our parties in this version of the game. But it does definitely make healing tougher in the cases where a pet needs to stop in because a tank dies or something.

And sure, it works in raid frames. But I don’t like to use raid frames in 5 mans.

Ok I found in raid profiles where I can select at the top “Use raid style party frames” and if I have display pets checked it shows their bar as a little green bar but I am trying to get it to display without having the party look like raid frames. I wonder why its not showing for me?

I always heal pets, I like most pets more than most people.

Doing a little more digging it looks like Blizzard had removed pets from the default ui during Warlords of Draenor. And since we’re playing on an emulated version of classicwow in their modern client… So much for #nochanges right?

Now that you mention it, you’re totally right- pets USED to show up in party frames in the old days, and now they don’t. =(

I thought I figured out a way to bring them back by re-enabling the toggle for “Party Members Pets” in the Unit Frames interface option. But apparently this client doesn’t even have a Unit Frames menu in the interface at all… So that won’t work.

Could probably do it in BFA though. Too bad I have no interest in playing that game, let alone bothering to install that client.

Guess I’ll give up trying to figure it out for now. Hopefully Blizzard will fix this at some point.
