How to set max camera distance?

How do I do this now? I saw Advanced Interface Options as a solution, but as it turns out it’s not a solution because it no longer works, but I despise the max camera distance being like RTS-level of camera zoom out and I don’t like accidentally zooming out further than comfortable if the mouse wheel gets rolled by accident and it’s just a whole thing.

Try Advanced Interface Options again, they just did an update an hour ago as it wasn’t opening after Blizz dropped pre-launch and is now operating normal (after updating AIO).

That is where I have the setting set to where I want it.

Having said that, if it still isn’t working for you, there is a Script for it that one of the regular posters might set you up with…or at least there used to be.

The allowable range of the Max Zoom Factor is 1 - 2.6, AIO just gives you easy access to modify that value.

You can also modify it via

/console cameraDistanceMaxZoomFactor 1

Scroll your camera out after adjusting it and it’ll adjust it within the new bounds.

Yeah I managed to do it, thanks! I’ll check AIO’s update too.

This made my field of view much smaller - doesn’t seem to work with wow anymore. And now I don’t know how to fix it… would not recommend this for anyone else trying to change their field of view in 2025.

Huh? It shouldn’t affect fov at all. As for affecting how far you can zoom out, that depends on what value you set it to.

Something isn’t working right. I logged in today and my camera is zoomed in. My FOV is set to 90. I ran the console command for 2.6 and it’s not zooming out more. The cameradistance console command doesn’t seem to work whether you put 1 or 2.6. I asked some friend and they are not having this issue.
Disabling all addons, deleting the WTF folder, etc also did not fix it so it’s a strange problem.

Did you also use the keybind to scroll your camera out after using the console command?

The console command adjusts the max, but it does not change the current value within the range of between first person and max zoom, if that makes sense?

Also, note that in one case I know of, an addon was accidentally changing the max zoom on every character login - in the (very) unlikely case something similar was happening to you, the Advanced Interface Options addon mentioned earlier in this thread can help you diagnose it - that’s how I made the discovery in the one case I just mentioned.

Within Advanced Interface Options, there is a CVar Browser feature - within that, you can search or browse through the various Console Variables and the addon will list what last changed each.

Search for this console variable in question for max zoom and it should list the current value, what last changed it, etc.

If it lists an addon, it will include very useful specific information that you can forward to the addon’s developer if you feel the addon is making the change in error.
