How to Optimize Damage from Mindbender

If you look at logs of top disc priests (when running a squid build) you will probably see tons of damage coming from Mindbender. Maybe this is true for you too. Some of us lesser disc priests may not understand exactly how this is. In my case, I have only very rarely run a squid build, but started this week for a couple reasons. First, it gets you back a fair bit of mana. Second, at least in my case, I find I am doing more damage with a squid build–hence more healing via atonement.

That said, on my logs I am seeing maybe two thousand k dps from mindbender, but am seeing six or even nine from top disc priests. This confuses me, and I wonder if I am doing it wrong. How is there such a huge discprepancy?

Anyone with knowledge of how to maximize damage from Mindbender, your thoughts would be of great help.

This is just personal, but when I know I’m about to pop a squid I always make sure harsh discipline and schism off CD. Once I pop it, I cast schism and spam my spells. Mobs do take cleave damage when using mind blast and PW:D. Saving your squid for “big” pulls what gets you the bug numbers.

Pretty much want to lineup Schism/Scov with bender. So Schism->Scov->Bender->MB->MB->SW:D->Double SW:D if able. It’s a bit awkward to play, tbh and I don’t like it all that much in the current patch. You get decent damage numbers and mana back, but the healing is definitely less consistent than the AoW build. Generally just better in an organized group that you know is going to hit their defensives.

The good thing about next patch is that Bender and Scov are the same button and Schism is tied to MB, which you’re going to hit right after bender anyway, and penance now procs IE. So our 7 buttons turned to 4: Bender → MB → Penance → SW:D → Smite to get Penance off CD.

IE, Penance and Scov are also all much more powerful next season so you can do some real burst healing while it’s happening.
