Just get to 40 first. It’s much easier to make gold in this bracket. Mageweave is worth far more than silk. Pirates are really good, as they also drop valuable rum and can be robbed for 175 skill boxes. Farm human type enemies so you can pickpocket as well. If you want to farm dungeons, each run is profitable. Bind your stone close to the dungeon door to reduce travel time.
But for real the lost ones in the swamp of sorrows drop gray weapons that sell for 1-2g and cloth. That’s where i farmed all xp from 39-40 and got to 100. Also gold gain increases with mob level so even if you don’t get it at 40 you will rake gold in later
At level 36, I was doing SM pick pocket runs. Skip GY unless you are an herbalist (if herbalist, that is the most lucrative one–grave moss is easy $). Go through Arm/Lib, get nearly a gold for each. Reset, rinse and repeat.
If you die, the runback is very fast. Each run takes less than 10 min. You’ll stock up on tons of reagents/lockboxes in the process as well.
That + professions, you’ll have more than enough at 40.
Go to Badlands at 40. Head to Angor Fortress. The mobs drop 4-6 stacks of silk every 60-90 minutes. They drop greens that average about 40 - 90 silver in AH. Vendor everything else. Also, pick pocket everything, you can sell that stuff too. Also the mobs average between 1-3 silver each in loot.
I would average 20 - 30 gold an hour depending upon the fact if I was alone or not.
I discovered it trying to get my lock picking up as they have foot lockers in the castle.
I am an old Everquest player so grinding for me was no big deal. I went from 42 to 46 in that Castle when I was only getting about 120 XP per kill. I killed over 1000 Dwarves from 45 to 46 and made a boat load of gold.
Did you have to change your spec to subtlety to do this? I’m currently using Combat swords. I’m assuming if I try this right now I’ll die?
My proffs are engineering and herbalism… weird I know but my alt can make me pots and mine for me and I wanted herb on my rogue for my thistle tea now that herb prices are blowing up on my server. That being said GY sounds like a good place to start? Did you run back to brill every time your bags were full?
Will I need to respec to sub for this?
Please let me know if these methods require a respec from Combat swords.
pick pocketing BRD is what I’m doing now at level 60. I know you’re not there yet, but when you are it’s a decent gold farm. I’m making about 20-25 gold an hour just pick pocketing from the ring of law to the bar.
At the time, I had all 12 slot bags, which I kept as much room in as possible (minus one filled with reagents). So when it comes to GY, there’s generally 3 different herbs up. Some of which might be unreachable if they’re by elites, though you’re probably high enough to solo em. Either way, minimal bag space consumed. The humans aren’t even worth pick pocketing in GY (if you’re trying to do this speedily) since they carry so little. While you’re there, you might find a rare…kill! Last boss I also started soloing for the drop at 40ish.
When it comes to the other ones, it’s mostly lockboxes you’ll fill your bags with. Between each run, I would open them all, toss any low value reagents. You’ll stock up on potions, some greens, and random greys that stack–those are the only things I kept.
By the time my bags were full, I’d have already run everything 5+ times each…and would call it quits at that point. Lib + Arm, I rounded up to 1g, though it tends to be more like 85s per run realistically (just from silver, all items excluded). So 5 runs of each, you already have over 8 gold, a couple of gold in greys to vendor, and if lucky some greens.
In short, leave like 20 empty slots and you’ll be good for numerous runs as long as your pick pocketing is leveled (to I think 75). No trips to Brill required unless you do this far more than I did…in which case ya, that’s exactly what I’d do.
Edit: I recommend some points in master of deception if possible. Not required, just makes things so much easier. Be prepared to hit that vanish/expect a run back by the end of each run. Not such a big deal–minimal $ loss, faster than running back stealthed. Expect mobs higher than your level to break it, so be selective…especially when it comes to armory.
It is worth to me because I know of no other farm for the least amount of effort than what I’m doing. Even ones that take more effort like perhaps killing things that drop good stuff might be better, but I havn’t tried it so I wouldn’t know.
edit: Yea I’m specced into sub for preperation and faster stealth. You do get some resists sometimes, but usually not more than vanish/preperation vanish can handle.
Woops mb. Has been a while since I was out there so I was going off bad memory. 36s is still pretty solid. I still remember making 4-5g an hour just killing them. They also have chests that spawn that can contain greens. Depending on your AH you can put the silk up for sale but if it’s low on the AH you can make heavy bandages and vendor them for 80s a stack.
I did a lot of pickpocketing, starting around level 40 in SM, then some ZF and BRD.
I had 140 gold by 40, about 450g at level 50 (post-mount and buying some skills) and I just hit 59 with 950g.
I just did runs whenever I felt like taking a break from leveling. Totally worth it, imo. I’ll have enough for my epic mount right away and then can do some more until I get the rest of the stuff I need.
Biggest thing is patience. I treated myself a little on the way, bought a few BOEs and a Phantom Blade, but it’s easy to make that up in just a few hours. You also get a lot of gold from grinding and dungeon runs, but pickpocketing is a nice supplement.
i am not combat swords but still have no pts in ‘increase stealth lvl’ or w/e. I also do this run, its closer to 50g than 30g/ hour for me really. that is if you are actively picking the entire time, not waiting on stealth or pockets to refill.
they will not see you at 60 no matter spec. unless you actually touch them. resist is not much, maybe 1 out of 30-40 mobs? there are stretches where you get 2-3 close together but very rarely have to wait for vanish to refresh (but i have 3 vanish).
you AH each stack of 5 potions to add to your total earnings , vendor or ah the star rubies, my server like 70s/stack for the pots, you will get like 5-7 stacks an hour.
is it worth it…IMO yes i don’t know of a solo place i can earn more. (would be different if every decent spot wasn’t over camped because shoving too many people on the servers).
Did you have points in subtlety for increased stealth?.. I wish I was you lol… your cash flow is solid.
Was sticking it through the rogue grind worth it?
How did you make 140g at 40 without pickpocketing?
Did you level in that spec or did you level to 60 as combat swords?
In your opinion, was rogue worth the grind to 60?.. I gotta say it’s pretty cool how many little extras rogue has pickpocket, lock picking, poisons, to keep you busy when getting bored.
i can not level as combat sword. i did to 33 on a queued server and just used the queue as an excuse to start fresh… started over and went 60 remorseless/ambush still haven’t respec’d.
=I know im wrong because everyone else thinks the other way but…for me its a much more fun, and easier grind that way. I did have to buy good daggers on the way up though…
An easier grind? Really? … I thought swords were the grind spec. I’ve always played rogues with daggers… I’ve actually never ran swords until Classic dropped. I like daggers far better but if you can’t backstab… you get one good ambush crit and then what? Dagger sinister strike?.. seems slow. Not trying to be a (bad word), honestly curious.
No sublety, I’ve been combat the whole time. At 44 I actually was able to farm the 2 chests in SM Library and Doan without much issue, just had to be a little more careful stealthing around. You can get blues from the chests, including Zealot Blade which will probably be valuable when more people start twinking.
I actually started pickpocketing at 38 I think. I had about 70 gold at that point. I wanted enough to get my mount plus skills, so I farmed a bit before 40. When I did get 40, I farmed until I had 100g again and then started leveling.
I could have just zoomed through levels, but I didn’t want to get burned out and I knew if I got to 60 and had to pick pocket like 700 gold and then have to pick pocket hundreds more after I got my epic mount I’d hate it.
As you get higher though there are more fun ways to make gold. When I was 54-56 I farmed Plugger in BRD for awhile until I got a Barman Shanker and Mixologist Tunic and made a good amount of gold from that. Sold a couple of Jumper Cable patterns for around 15g each.
Worth it for sure. I’m usually a caster guy, but I love my rogue. Looking forward to PVPing with daggers and being able to farm for alts very efficiently.
