Overall, the theme is strong. Possibly the best theme since Legion. The focus on Blood Elves with the updated Silvermoon City and Quel’Thalas are great and look great. Housing is great. The new Demon Hunter Devourer spec is great, and the addition of Void Elf Demon Hunters is a big win as well.
The Haranir are okay at best as a new race. I am assuming they are neutral which is also okay at best.
No new race of Demon Hunter for the Horde is not good either.
Lastly, the cinematic left much to be desired. Blizzard cinematics are known for being epic and this one fell short of that.
So, here is how to pull back from this largely disappointing reveal and make Midnight the success we all want it to be in two easy steps.
Two Bold New Allied Races - Ethereals for the Alliance and Forest/Amani Trolls for the Horde.
Nightborne Demon Hunters - A no brainer. Let’s balance this out for both factions. Afterall, our sole new spec feature of the expansion as a selling point is for this class alone. It’s a must to have another race option for both factions and not just the Alliance.
There is absolutely no reason that these two things cannot be accomplished for Midnight. If these two exact things would have been included in the gameplay reveal trailer, the reaction would have been much more positive.
This isn’t asking for a lot. Many of us have played this game for over 20 years. We at least need to be receiving some of the races that many of us have wanted throughout this journey.
My final recommendation for Blizzard moving into The Last Titan…
Give us two new races that players will actually want and will get excited for to sell your game. Think something close to Vrykul for the Alliance and Ogres for the Horde.
If your cinematic for this last expansion of the World Soul Saga falls flat and you give us another weak allied race, I can’t think of a better way to really drop the ball on this whole project and leave your fans disappointed.
Oh yes there is, and it’s unfortunately laziness. We’ve had constant feedback about wanting certain allied races, but we constantly keep getting relatively low effort re-skeletons of existing races. I don’t think we’re ever going to get the likes of Ethereals, Sethrak, Ogres, etc because of that even though they should have been first in line for new allied races for awhile.
I get my opinions on my own, not from the Youtube comment section. I actually can’t think of a worse place to learn what people are thinking than Youtube comments.
*No Haranir you make Ethereals the allied race (I mean we are saving Karesh.)
*You have to make Xala’tath more formidable. She might be the worst villain I’ve ever seen in this game. She cannot kill a old man or a fat goblin. this goes beyond giving her more void power. Personally I feel she should be dealt with this season because it makes the most sense. Why would anyone on either Horde or Alliance not have a contingency plan to prevent her from screwing us over?
*either solidfy the Horde and Alliance as their own separate goverments or merge them. Stop trying to do both. I have a theory this isnthe end result to have a Azeroth World Council but just do it already. This all over the place will they won’t they is creating more harm than good
*Bring back the OG NPCs. Stop giving us Faerins and actually write good plot for the existing characters.
It seems like there would be an imbalance in “quality” between the factions if Blizzard were to release Alliance-aligned Ethereals and Horde-aligned Amani.
They’re both cool, but clearly the Ethereals are the more impactful of the two groups (particularly considering that they basically could be a package deal with Brokers, if Blizzard chose to do so).
I’d much rather see them introduce Ethereals and Haranir as neutral races, during TWW or pre-patch Midnight, and then couple Horde-aligned Amani with Alliance-aligned “Half-Elves” or “Half-Vrykul” or “Half-Vrykelves” at some point in Midnight.
(Edit: In fact, where possible, it should probably just become “the norm” for Blizzard to introduce Allied Races for any given expansion after the expansion where they became relevant and/or were introduced has concluded. So Ethereals and Haranir become relevant in TWW, they’re added at the end of TWW; Amani and others become relevant in Midnight, added at the end of Midnight.)
The cinematic made me excited. Could it have been better? Sure, everything can be, but at its core it had a battle in a WARcraft trailer. Maybe I’m basic, but I was sold. Feels like WoW to me.
Due to the many shortcomings in engagement based algorithms and the over saturation of the mentally unwell who have taken refuge in the online world, the internet skews very negative and melodramatic.
Only people who are chronically online think the real world is even remotely as fired up about and invested in all these non-issues as all the chicken littles running in circles around social media apps.
Also a way to fix Midnight is to stop giving our heroes chores. We need to stop picking flowers, running errands, and helping old ladies cross the street. Our characters need to be in War rooms with the Big Dogs. We need to be placing troops and giving orders. We are the Champion!!! Our characters need to be in the cut scenes as major players. Not just some character in the background who slowly walks off camera.
I for one disliked the trailer. Pacing was fine, the graphics were — not good.
Lor’themar, looked like an ill blotchy-skinned human with elf ears slapped onto the side of his head. It didn’t quite click with me what was bugging me about it, but the still shots from that trailer that is posted on Battle.net made me realize that was what bugged me about it. Their ‘realism’ attempts just made it look – awful.
I got far more enthusiasm for the other trailer which used in-game graphics. It didn’t jar and got me far more invested.
That’s really where I think they failed and why it was so nit-picked all over. It just wasn’t the great quality we’ve seen previously.
I’m just no longer interested in writing out long forum posts of feedback and passion for a company that never addresses a large amount of the player base.
Afterall, this entire forum post will fall on deaf ears. I remember all the threads about the massive letdown of Earthen from TWW and here we are again.
There’s one thing that they need to do, and that’s give blood elves customizable underwear like dracthyr have. And tattoos, and more hair styles and colors.
