Hey guyz,… I would like to know a good place to fish so i can level up. My current fishing level is 170 and i have a goal of getting to 300.
If you are just leveling up fishing, just go to a body of water that is in a high level area (Winterspring, Blasted Lands, etc) and just fish. If you actually want to CATCH something (maybe to level cooking as well), you are looking at mid level zones like Desolace or Stranglethorn Vale until you get to higher fishing levels.
For fishing, all areas in an expansion will give you the same leveling rate. So, fishing in Orgrimmar will level you as fast as fishing in Winterspring.
If you actually want to fish for something useful in Vanilla zones, I’d head to the barrens and fish up the Deviate pools at the various oases. (Or, if you don’t want to hunt pools, just fish in the waters of the oases.)
Fishing in pools gives you the chance to get a tome that can teach you “find fish” which enable pools to be marked on your minimap. You also have the chance to get the tome by doing the fishing daily offered in org, Undercity, and Thunder Bluff. Only one fishing daily can be done per day.
However, the Darkmoon Faire starts this Sunday and runs for a week. with 170 skill, you should catch a Darkmoon Daggermaw on every cast. They are valuable fish and sell quite well on the AH.
Thee is a vendor on the docks who will exchange them for pets and other items, including “Silas’ Treasure Map” which costs 100 Daggermaw and starts a short quest on the island which awards 100 DMF tickets.
The tickets can be used at the DMF Heirloom vendor to pick up an heirloom or two.
You also have a chance to catch a shark which has 10-30 gold and several daggermaw in it’s stomach as well as a pet crab.
If I where you, and planned on doing a lot of fishing to level up the skill, I would do it at the DMF as you’ll wind up with more value for the time you invest than any other classic fishing can provide. You can also to the DMF monthly fishing quest there for a +5 skill up.
Hi I started fishing at the Lushwater Oasis in the Barrens, and it took 10 minutes to increase my skill by 12, is this usual? Or is there something i am doing wrong?
When you first start fishing, you get a skill up point per catch, even for junk. As your skill increases, it takes more catches to earn a point.
Once you learn BC fishing, the skill range is 1-75 and, again, you’ll start with a skill up per catch and gradually increase the number of catches needed to earn a skill up.
At least the number needed to skill up on the high end of an expansion’s fishing cap is much lower that it used to be. When BC first came out, there were skill up ranges where you needed over two dozen fish to skill up a point and catching junk didn’t count towards skill ups…
