How to know which items give Titan Residuum?

I know that items acquired prior to 8.1 do not give Titan Residuum, whereas items acquired after 8.1 do give Titan Residuum.

The problem is, as time rolls on, it’s getting more and more difficult to remember exactly when I acquired each item relative to the 8.1 release date. Nothing on the items themselves seem to indicate whether or not they will give Titan Residuum when they are disenchanted or scrapped.

In one case, I have a pair of 370 shoulders that I got prior to 8.1 and kept as a spare for off-spec purposes; had not picked talents yet or anything. Got the exact same shoulders again after 8.1 and also put them in the bank without really thinking about it first. Now I have two of the exact same shoulders in the bank, neither has any talents selected. One will give Titan Residuum, the other will not. Any way to know which is which other than basically rolling the dice and possibly doing an item restoration if I make the wrong choice?

In many cases, when deciding whether to disenchant a piece or not, Titan Residuum is enough to tilt the decision as simply obtaining a shard/dust is less valuable than just keeping the piece, even if it’s only a tiny chance of ever using it even just for offspec purposes. But other than trying to attach a mental note to every item in my bag and bank regarding exactly when I acquired it, how am I supposed to know which items will actually give it?

Thanks

So basically just the azerite powered pieces will provide this currency as noted.

Not sure if you actually read my post or not. I know exactly what Titan Residuum is and how it is acquired. What I want to know is how i’m supposed to identify which items will give it, when I have identical items and one was obtained prior to 8.1, one after 8.1, and essentially no longer have a way to tell the two apart anymore.

They need to bring back the ability to vendor azerite gear. Even while leveling it can’t be sold to a vendor so I find myself just destroying the duplicates.

Only gear dropped after 8.1 will provide it, the comments section above lists how many you can get from each item level of azerite gear.

I’m not sure why you keep responding to things that I already clearly addressed in my first post, and have nothing to do with the question that I am asking.

My question is simple:

Let’s say I have two pieces that are identical in every way except one was acquired before 8.1 and one after 8.1. Since they are identical, it’s not obvious which is which, or i would obviously just DE the post-8.1 piece. Is this just a trial and error - you’re screwed if you make the wrong decision thing at that point?

Unless you deleted your gear (which you didn’t) there is no real way of telling. Just scrap it all, cannot even sell Azerite gear for gold so little harm. Unless of course you wanted to Disenchant it, in which case roll the dice.

I’m sorry I was under the impression that gear dropped after 8.1 also had an additional ring of azerite talents added, probably just the next round of it will?

There is no way to know, other than memory unfortunately. Eventually all your items from season 1 will be effectively useless though so not much of a purpose to micromanaging it. In a few weeks all your gear from season 1 will be scrapped regardless of if its from 8.1or 8.0.

I keep my newest az pieces in a special spot in my bags. Alternatively you could just scrap/de it as soon as you get it

Ah, well that’s what I feared. I was holding out hope that maybe there was an add-on or something that could tell me which is which or something else that I had overlooked.

Unless I’m mistaken (always possible) the stuff that dropped after 8.1 hit doesn’t have a vendor cost.

That’s how you tell them apart.

I need to check, being an enchanter I normally de it all with out really checking anyway.

I could well be wrong here, as this toon is an enchanter (and engineer), I’ve been DEing or scrapping things since the beginning.
