Have been trying to level a mage for a while. I would like to know how can I tell if a target is in my range to attack. Is there any UI setting that I can tweak?
To be honest I’m not sure about WoW’s default UI as I haven’t used it in a long time (since like MoP). I do know addon UIs that have this function; your target will change color on its databar if it’s in range.
In the default UI, there is a white number/keybind letter over your ability icons. This number/letter turns red if you have an enemy targeted that is out of range.
Samarana speaks true. There are add-ons you can download that help you if you need something visual on the screen.
There’s a very simple addon that works with the default action bars as well as addons like Dominos; it’s called TullaRange. If you’re in range the buttons/abilities are their normal colour, if you’re out of range the buttons turn red, and if you don’t have the resources to use an ability the buttons turn blue. Requires no setup, just install and it’s good to go. (Although you can manually change the colour settings if you prefer.)
I’ve used it for years and find it even more useful as melee, since one or two steps makes the difference between in/out of range, and sometimes it’s hard to tell when there’s a million spell animations going off under you, and you’re lost in a cluster of melee and pets.
I have never heard of this addon. sounds wonderful. i have played ranged for years so switching over to melee i do find it hard to sometimes know if im in range of the target with all the other spells going off. i wonder does it show something if you move thru the target so you are actually past them? or does it just pop red again since you are technically out of range. thats where i have the most trouble. i step thru my target so my melee abilities are out of range
If you’re out of range your buttons will turn red, it doesn’t matter if you’re in front of or behind your target. However, if you step through your target and you’re still in melee range it won’t notify you of that, only if you’re out of range. That’s something I also had to adjust to when switching to melee.
