I plan to cast ROP and then blink away and watch it time out…….one……last……time
Throw it into C’thuns underside and burn it with kodo droppings! Then subject it to endless turtle made it to the water quest on repeat for all eternity!!!
No need to give it a sendoff, if you ever miss it you can just slap yourself in the face mid-rotation.
tfw this video exists…
Only if it nerfs their damage by 30% if they step outside of the toy radius!
Underappreciated comment – you are % correct.
That video is so accurate . I can’t wait for the day I can log on my mage and see it gone. I will go back to maining mage again. Rise of the mage back to its proper place of power
“Wow, the article was really difficult to read through. It could have greatly benefited from some editing, almost reads like it was generated by AI or cobbled together with heavy copy and pasting. Also a really bad take on the removal of RoP. It was a horrible ability and almost universally despised except for the top brass of professional gamers who could make proper use of it. If it does end up causing a reduction in burst that’s perfectly fine and an acceptable trade off for the massive ease of use. Personally, I would have also liked to see RS removed as well and replaced with something like Mark of Aluneth. Lastly, I don’t understand the fascination with all the movement increase abilities. Seems like it’s coming solely from the toxic “go, go, go” mentality prevalent in high end M+. Again not something the average player is concerned with.” - Kerathras
I’ll probably feel better when playing as Fire not having to set up a rune before SKB every time. Can’t wait to have it gone but I’ll definitely miss the amount of burst damage I can do as Arcane right now (rip 500k ST burst in raids), though I’d still trade that for not having to deal with rune anymore.
I love the idea of turning it into a toy though.
Lmao! What does my Wowhead comment about Porom’s messy article on the Arcane rework have to do with this thread?
Because your opinions are bad for the spec’s viability in end game content.
You yourself said you’re happier with the spec having a more flat damage profile just because you hate RoP, you fail to realise he isn’t asking for RoP to stay but that he’s advocating for not flattening the damage profile of the spec which is something that has made Arcane such a desirable raid spec this expansion.
Wanting Mark of Aluneth back instead of Radiant Spark is another poor opinion you have; RS actually has interaction with how our spec functions, Mark is just a damage button you pressed on cooldown that scaled poorly with the class and changed nothing with how the spec functioned.
RS is a terrible button but it actually has interaction with our spec and should either be improved or replaced with something new that still has interactions with how Arcane plays.
I don’t get the take that it’s somehow okay to have to give up our major defensive to gain an 80% sprint when that kind of speed boost is nothing but good; having them on separate buttons added flexibility for Mages and labeling it as part of some imaginary toxic mentality that average players don’t care about is a silly opinion when you don’t speak for the average player and M+ isn’t just a high end player’s club (it’s actually very useful having both a wall and a sprint on separate buttons for nearly all levels of content in the game).
Your comment in reply to the post deserved to be mocked because it doesn’t push the class and the spec forward, it just holds it back. Porom puts a lot of work in to these articles and you should honestly be thankful he’s out there advocating for Arcane because for the longest time we didn’t have anyone that Blizzard listened to for our spec. All you did was trash his work because you didn’t like it.
So has he and many other mages, yes, myself included. He even acknowledges in this very article that the design of RoP does not work within the context of how the modern game plays. Blizzard themselves have acknowledged that. It’s a done deal. Arguing this point further is like being in that 1% of climate scientists who don’t agree global warming is real. Except worse because at least they do it for the money they get from polluting industries. Y’all just argue for RoP to be contrarians at this point.
It is impossible to keep the same level of burst that Arcane has now without keeping RoP in or some other version of it. You either have to put up with RoP or you have to accept that you’re going to do less burst. You can’t have both things. Well not unless they just make RoP into a buff which they obviously won’t because so much raw power without any drawback would be too overpowered.
That’s just your opinion. I happen to disagree, just as you do with mine. RS is also a button you press every time it’s off cooldown except not as soon as it’s own cooldown is up but only when you can sync it with other cooldowns. That to me is flawed design. If a cooldown is not good enough on its own and can only be useful when used in tandem with half a dozen others it’s just a bad ability. It doesn’t so much have an interaction with how the spec works as it simply forces the spec to be played a certain way i.e. stacking cooldowns. And it isn’t even just RS that does that it’s all of these spell. That’s why I am pushing for more than just RoP’s removal. They all need to go to unclutter the spec. I only suggest MoA is an interim solution. I know it’s not perfect, far from it. I am merely being realistic in acknowledging that they aren’t going to come up with a brand new spell on the fly to fill that gap. Not in a .5 patch.
It was a 5 minute cooldown for crying out loud! Other specs have similar sprint options on 30 second cooldowns! It was a gimmick at best. It didn’t offer flexibility, it offered the illusion of it. Like so much of Arcane’s toolkit.
If you’re going through all this trouble just to “mock” me then you really need to reconsider your priorities. And I didn’t “trash” his work, or even disagree with most of it. I even said as much but you conveniently left that part out. All I did was point out that it was rushed, not edited (like at all), and rife with typos and run-on sentences which made it difficult to read. In the past I’ve commended his articles. Including the last one he wrote. Go look it up since you seem to have so much free time on your hands to lurk through old online posts. This one was just sloppy and I called it out. It’s a holiday weekend maybe he wanted to get it out of the way because he was going out of town, it happens. It’s not a big deal, get over it. I know I have.
P.S. Again, this thread has nothing to do with any of this but you decided to derail it with a personal attack against me, or rather because you felt like you had to white knight for Porom. GG!
I like the idea of arcane surge, but I wish we could go back to the days of using RoP on multiple spells. RoP ring of frost, mass poly, regular poly, surge, blast could all be cool things and then maybe move it to the base mage tree. I’m sure fire would love the old PoM Pyro and frost with Spike
Remember in Legion when every class was mandatory reworked into a Generator-Spender paradigm?
Now, every class is being pushed to multipliers and wombo combo damage into priority skills. While I’m really glad it’s not genspend paradigm, I’m not really a fan of stacking multipliers as a fun design source either.
Me? Press a button. See results. That’s what I want to feel. And that’s what Blizzard said they wanted to once upon a time, so I’m not really sure why junk like Bonedust Brew and/or Radiant Spark exists. It’s just sitting as a tax unless you can hit all your multipliers together in the burst phase (which, if every encounter has a burst phase, the encounter design is getting lazy).
I don’t really mind Radiant Spark. To me the real fault with the spell is the very high variance it gives Arcane’s burst windows whether Arcane Blast crits at the right moment when Radiant Spark is at 3 and 4 stacks. The previous tier set reduced that by a fair margin with the extra crit chance so I really wish there’d be a crit chance buff baked into Radiant Spark somewhere.
Or replace it with something better, that works too. But I like how it at least shakes up the usual rotation a bit. I didn’t like early~mid Arcane in 10.0 but I’m enjoying it a lot more now that we don’t take Arcane Harmony anymore, so I’d be disappointed if we returned to Arcane Blast/Arcane Missiles spam like previous iterations.
The only send-off I want to give it is to scoop up some dog droppings, place them in a bag, set them on fire on Rune of Power’s front porch, and then run and hide behind a bush while Rune of Power has to stomp on the bag of poo to put out the fire.
I didn’t know you wrote that comment… but I completely agree with it.
Love the toy idea!
They can put a perma RoP down near a target dummy in the mage class hall that gives you 40% dmg.
But its exactly 41 yards away.
Or a one shot swirly spawns on it any time someone walks on it.
Lmaooo!
Dusted this guy off in anticipation. Using RoP in PVP is such a pain, pop it for everyone to see and my target bolts for the hills, blink blink on him again, WAY out of the HUGE circle, lol. Goodbye to the most hated spell in the game.
