How to get into mythics as a new 120?

when bfa came out I was playing with all my friends. they all left(cause bfa) and i have a bunch of alts, the issue being that once its time to gear them up, i can’t really do arenas because lfg is hell for an alt and apparently that applies to mythic zeroes also.

so i cant get into any mythic runs and nobody will join(and stay) in a m0 group that i create. so whats a guy gonna do

Mythic 0s are a joke for most groups now, however, if you can tank or heal, better do that.

However, it might be better to try and get some gear from world bosses, world quests and the emissaries before trying for mythics, as there are a lot that will see the ilvl and be like “it is not my job to help this person gear”.

I am one that will do runs to help others gear up, especially if I can get something I need from the run (quest, trade mat, M+ key, etc) but even I won’t set foot in one unless I need something as I just can’t deal with the potential toxic nature of the group if I get one that can’t understand there is a difference between “gogogo” and “I’ll go as fast as I can, but I want a smooth run”.

I’ve gotten a couple characters to push up to 1k over the last 2 seasons. What I’ve managed to do is heroic gear to m+0 item level, then hit m0 and get a key, push that key (and it’s ups and downs) until you’re consistently doing 10s. At 1k IO, you start to plateau. You can make larger jumps until then, after 1k, people are more jumpy about invites, so if you’re trying to up in IO on a particular dungeon, you’ll probably still be in your key, but you can consistently pug 10s at 1k IO, too. Once you hit m+10 drop item level, start farming your own key again till you push to +15. This is really where everything starts changing. 1600 IO groups are (on average) more successful than 1K IO groups. Pug in this range to up your “Timed 15+” statistic up quite a bit. 1600+ IO pugs are rarer than 1k IO pugs, so you’ll want to make yourself attractive to group leaders AND as a group leader. Once you have a profile that can draw decent dudes, start pushing your key up again.

That’s as far I’ve gotten. I’m going to end this season at my current IO (1707). Purely pug life.

Definitely be familiar with the dungeons. I’d recommend doing them all at least a couple of times on normal, then heroic (you should get gear upgrades from both) - then doing the 0’s. Then dabble in 2’s and 3’s until you’re comfortable enough adding a second affix. I’'d really recommend not moving on to +4 - +6 until you’ve completed all the dungeons on time at +3 though. Then work on 4-6 and completing those on time and mastering the second affixes. Once you’ve timed everything on 6, move on to 7-9s. Time all your 9s, and move on to 10s. Once you’ve got the hang of the last affix, the only thing happening in higher keys is just more health and more damage. There won’t be much else to learn (though you’ll start to find that damage you used to be able to previously take and ignore from time to time is now absolutely lethal). Mistakes get far less forgiving the higher you go. But if you do keys in order, you’ll get tons of practice, and hopefully not make many mistakes by the time you’re doing keys where you can’t.

Try not to punch above your weight class. Even at 2200 IO, I won’t sign up for anything higher than +2 levels over what I’ve timed. (Like, with mostly +19s timed, I won’t sign up for 22s. I generally feel iffy and expect rejection from 21s as well.)

I’m also doing this 100% PUG, and let me tell you how freakin’ rough it gets. The 19s wall is worse than any previous wall. (Though admittedly, the +11 wall is bad too if you’re not a meta class. I had to shelf my WW monk from season 1 because after hitting 1k IO, I simply could NOT get invites to 11s often enough to warrant playing.
No one wanted a WW monk last season… )

I literally stay logged in 4-5 hours a day (tabbed out doing other stuff) refreshing the group finder, and maybe, maybe find 1-2 keys that’ll boost my score. And then, there’s no guarantee I’ll get in. And then, there’s like a 75% chance the PUG will fail and everyone will quit.

17 is turning out to be a killer wall for me, but I 100% pug. Even as a meta class, I probably get into 1 out of every 10 groups I apply for over +15. They are generally successful, but it’s slow going trying to build IO at this range.

I had some good weeks where I was able to raise my score 100 or more points after 1700, but now I’m at the point where there literally just aren’t ever PUG keys listed anymore. I can count on one hand the number of 20s I’ve seen on there in the last two weeks.

My kingdom for a dedicated group!

Message me if you need a rogue for 20s. Anyone. Please.

Im looking to learn them and get better. This is my main. I have been playing wow since vanilla but I have never stick around long enough for end game content. I really like playing disc heals and I work hard to do it. So if you’re interested we can exchange btags and learn together

Lmao

Gotta meet the 10 character limit

At the moment it’s easier than before.

Hit 120, unlock world quests, go to the auction house and buy a few 350 and 370 ilvl items. Get your item level to 325 so you can do heroic dungeon queue. Use that to boost your avg item level even more.

Now your world quests can give much better Azerite armors and such. Then you just hop into M0 since it’s relatively easy and get your own key.

Get to 120, do targeted world quests to upgrade item level, spam heroics for 385s. Once you’re like 375, do a bunch of mythic 0s. Do those until you get a mythic+ key then farm a bunch of +5s for 415 gear. After you start to not get upgrades, spam +8s. After that, +10s.

Here’s what I would recommend, some has been said by others:

  1. WQ gear and AH to start
  2. Heroics to get better gear
  3. List your own dungeon group for a M0. Be clear in the description that you are new. I ran three with a group last night who were gearing and had a great time helping out.
  4. Join a guild and get help that way. We are a small guild, but the group always pulls together to help with gear runs for new 120s.

Your first goal is to hit the magic ilvl point where you get 415 azerite emissary rewards. You do that by targeting world quest drops for trinkets/rings, buying armor blanks from Nazjatar, and hitting warfronts and conquest. Once you start getting 410 and 415 drop, do low-mid keys- usually your own then try to get into some pug raids.
