How to get better in PVP Guide

Guide for Newer Players*
About 14 years ago I was a newer player running around in the middle of descolace on a PVP server. I remember it was one of the times that I had defeated a common foe that tried to gank me. As I was questing this lvl 40 something Rogue tried to gank me, I quickly jumped into action and did whatever I could to defeat him. I started with a death coil (Mortal coil), and summoned my succubus for extra support. Once I did that, I dotted him up, feared him, and eventually took him down. I was uplifted with a sense of joy and excitement as it happened. I was extremely grateful because I felt like I had did the almost impossible, I defeated a Rogue, with hardly any PVP experience. Now it may have not been a big deal to other players, but it was for me, I had served the Alliance with pride.
The question is what happened, and how can this make you a better player? The first most important fundamental to understand is that you: practice. With practice comes the act of bettering oneself, it’s a slow process, but I assure you that if you simply practice or attempt to do, you will find success in whatever you’re trying to do. The next step is: diligence be patient, and have tenacity when practicing your pvp skills. You can do so in battlegrounds, but I suggest practicing in the actual world. Turn on Warmode and practice, because you never know what you’re going to experience, what you’re going to kill, and what you’re going to achieve. It was my interaction with that Rogue that helped shape my love for PVP, and overal I was actively pursuing to become better. If you do the same you will also become better, and therefore skill up in PVP.
If you’re looking for tips, that is the biggest one I have for every person that is returning, or trying out PVP for the first time. Simply practice and you will become better, read guides, watch videos, talk to people, these tips will help you. I know most of you all know this already, but some people don’t even practice out of fear of losing, don’t be afraid to lose, because you’ll eventually climb to the top. Here are some ways to finding information, go to your local forums on your server and find some active pvpers, then type /who and type their name and whisper away, or simply type /who and your class and whisper random people, they may be able to assist you developing your skills, talents, etc.
Thank you. If you have any questions please contact me.

I like it. Practice makes perfect. Also it doesn’t hurt to practice googling Icy Veins PVP guides for the optimal talents.

Icy Veins is one option, you can also do Youtube to incorporate opinions, read comments, etc…

You know trying to figure out the scaling is another way as well.

Scaling has really created a large impact on the game, especially since lowbies now have a fighting chance against higher levels, ya’know?

It’s not even that let’s say I have a 370 ilvl weapon and 350 who is to say the 350 is not better?

I would assume that would boil down to skill level ya’know?

Not skill. If you’re ilvl 370 has same stats as a 350 but the 350 has a gem it is possible better or a 350 with a trait on it. I have a 350 with a trait which will scale better than then 370 ilvl weapon. Very rare to find a weapon with a trait that scales better than some Azerite traits.

Skill?? Some skill but not much. This expansion gives you a false sense of skill. It is class/spec then types of traits. Most of the other stuff is hidden.

I mean I disagree with that entirely, I have a Rogue that is like 322 IL and I’ve destroyed like 2-3 120’s people at a time, so I think it’s really heavily dependent on skill, ya’know?
But I see your point, do you see mine & what I mean? I don’t think it really matters about the gear ultimately, I think that it boils down to how you play and what.

You’re right depends on how you play and class.

Right now if a disc priest and fury warrior with some skill could do really well in arena.

So, I understand what you’re saying about skill. Yes of course you need some to key
bind, macro, hand & eye coordination.

I give the skill margin 15% to 25%.
Traits from Azerite about 10% to 15%.
Class and spec 30% to 40%
Ilvl scaling is unknown either up or down in ilvl. If someone figures it out. This will become a higher percentage as in class percentage 0% to 40%. When I say figure it out I mean I pick this ring ilvl 300 and I have a 385 it turns out 300 is better I scrap all rings that above 300 unless worn.
While everyone else is running a straight line to the Higher ilvl which could make them stronger/same/weaker and you are continually getting stronger because you the formula blizzard is using.

Only reason I have a problem with ilvl scaling is a I cannot test it to get better as in cannot trash items to lower ilvl(unless truly get destroyed), cannot void bank, cannot is bank, and so fourth.
The person that might know is someone with $$ either paid blizzard for info or multiple toons(have same everything then start checking ilvl). I do believe some ppl figure it out. I seen a mage do 30dps in a bg with 105k life and was hardly hurt by anyone. They got really lucky.

I blow chunks at pvp at the moment, cuz nub, but gawd damn is it fun.
So many freaking spells and weird hand configurations to move around and still hit hotkeys, there’s a fairly steep learning curve, at least for me. That and forgetting what was hotkey’d to what, I’m really good at that, probably the best out there.

Best move ever enabling war mode, though. That mofo is never getting turned back off lol. Nothing better to improve than repeatedly making a fool of yourself.

It brings me back to the good ol’ D2 days clearing pubs with my vanq (everybody loves desync hammers and foh  oh, and hosting everybody in chaos runs and clearing them… and jsp lads. how did blizz screw d3 up so bad)
