Just posting this as a guide for people.

Recruitment Process

  1. Think of what comp you want to have in advance. You need to build primary around a b-res + heroism composition, but also think of things like poison+curse removal, soothe removal, interrupts, aoe stuns, etc.
  2. Use google docs and create your own form that people have to fill out to join. If you put a form as a barrier it helps weed out people who aren’t really interested. A good template is to simply ask what role, what spec, their discord info, time/availability/etc.
  3. Message people on the two discords above, check your friends list, ask guild mates, etc. and have them fill out the form if you think they need too. Then you need to plan a set date+time you want to run keys or just make it yolo whenever people are online.
  4. If you struggle to find people on Discord then message people after you run keys and ask them or create a group on the LFG finder and just put “Creating push group read desc” and just write out in the description what you need, times, etc.
  5. I recommend interviewing each person. Ask them questions about their spec, class, how they fit in, etc. because you can usually get a feel for people before you invite.
  6. Create your own Discord server.

From start to finish this process will probably take you about 1-2 weeks. I had 40 applicants and I interviewed about 12 people before settling on 4.

IDK man, I just list my key and accept the highest IO person of the class I want. AM I doing it wrong?

That depends. When a key fails or someone leaves early do you just find or make another group, and accept that it just happens sometimes? Or do you race to the forums trying to find ways to force people to stay in your groups, no matter what?

If it’s the first one, nope, you’re good, keep doing what you’re doing; it’s working. If it’s the second, yes, you’re doing it wrong and need to try something more like the OP’s suggestion.
